The Jaquet-Droz brand is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer with a captivating history that traces back to 1721. Its journey began with Pierre Jaquet-Droz, a skilled watchmaker and precision mechanic born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. He gained renown for his intricate clock movements that featured music and automata, attracting an elite clientele impressed by his creations.
In 1758, Jaquet-Droz traveled to Spain, where he showcased his striking clocks to King Ferdinand VI, leaving a lasting impression on the monarch with his exceptional craftsmanship. The brand's success continued to soar, leading Pierre Jaquet-Droz to establish a workshop in London in 1774. Subsequently, with the assistance of James Cox London, Jaquet-Droz expanded his reach to the Chinese market, achieving significant recognition and accomplishments.
By 1788, Jaquet-Droz had reached the pinnacle of success, but economic challenges arising from the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars later impacted the brand's fortunes.
In the year 2000, the Jaquet-Droz brand was acquired by the Swatch Group, a significant event that marked the brand's resurgence. With renewed energy, Jaquet-Droz returned to its roots in La Chaux-de-Fonds and opened the Atelier de Haute Horlogerie in 2010, further enhancing its reputation for craftsmanship and innovation.
