Introducing Vulcain Launches the New Grand Prix Petite Seconde

An elegant release with a rich aubergine dial

Vulcain is one of Switzerland’s historic watchmaking names, long associated with classical design codes and dependable mechanical movements. The Grand Prix collection stands as one of the brand’s icons, with a story that stretches back decades and is closely tied to one of Vulcain’s earliest international achievements. The concept was born as a tribute to the brand’s prize-winning success at the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition, a distinction that later inspired the Grand Prix name during the 1940s.

The watch would go on to take a more defined form in the 1960s, establishing an elegant design language that remains closely associated with the collection today. In 2024, Vulcain introduced a modern revival of the Grand Prix, reinterpreting its vintage aesthetic with contemporary refinements while remaining faithful to its historical roots. In its latest release, the brand expands the lineup with the Grand Prix Petite Seconde, distinguished by a rich aubergine dial.

The watch is housed in a stainless steel case measuring 39 mm in diameter with a thickness of 12.70 mm. The case features a combination of polished and brushed surfaces that enhance its refined profile. A solid screwed caseback closes the watch and ensures water resistance rated at 50 meters.

The dial is finished in a deep aubergine tone with a sunburst effect that subtly plays with light. Applied Arabic numerals mark the hours, complemented by polished hour and minute hands. A small seconds sub-dial is positioned at 6 o’clock, while a printed minute track frames the outer edge of the dial.

Powering the watch is the Landeron 24S6 automatic movement. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offers a power reserve of 40 hours. The watch is paired with a leather strap, available in either purple or black depending on the version, and secured by a stainless steel pin buckle.

Vulcain offers the Grand Prix Petite Seconde in two executions. One is a limited edition of 25 pieces, distinguished by a contrasting silver small seconds sub-dial. The second version adopts a fully monochromatic purple aesthetic and joins the brand’s permanent collection.

Pricing is set at €1,390, approximately AED 6,000, for the non-limited version, while the limited edition is priced at €1,460, approximately AED 6,300.
