A limited-edition from the German brand inspired by the beauty of Dubai’s desert
The TEFNUT is a model defined by its pure, understated design and the use of high-quality, hand-finished materials. The German brand Moritz Grossmann now presents the TEFNUT in a new version that celebrates both its partnership with Ahmed Seddiqi and the retailer’s 75th anniversary: the TEFNUT Seddiqi 75th Anniversary Edition.
This limited-edition watch draws inspiration from the wild beauty of the desert from which Dubai emerged, the home of the historic, family-run Seddiqi company. Its nuanced color palette echoes the natural tones surrounding Dubai: the sun’s rays, warm desert winds, and endless sandy horizons.
The case is crafted from brushed stainless steel with a robust three-part construction and an elegantly rounded form. Measuring 39 mm in diameter and just 8.5 mm in height, it presents a slim and refined profile. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on one side ensures excellent legibility, while the stainless steel crown, used for winding and setting the time, integrates seamlessly into the overall design.
The dial’s surface features a velvety matte texture achieved through a 19th-century artisanal technique known as silver plating by friction, meticulously performed by hand at the Moritz Grossmann ateliers. A special paste, made of silver powder and other ingredients, is applied with a small brush and rubbed until a finely grained texture appears.
For this anniversary edition, the surface has been patinated to reveal shimmering shades of silver and brown, evoking a vintage aesthetic. This look is complemented by brown-violet lacquer used for the scales and inscriptions: the minute track, the historic “M. Grossmann” logo, and the Eastern Arabic numerals—all fired in this distinctive tone. The steel hands, crafted and annealed to a brown-violet hue within the Moritz Grossmann manufactory, perfectly complete the composition. Hand-shaped in several meticulous steps, their softly rounded profiles and delicate tips catch the light beautifully.
Inside beats the exquisite in-house calibre 102.1, the same ultra-thin movement featured in Moritz Grossmann’s unique collaboration piece with Philippe Dufour. This manually wound calibre is composed of 188 individually crafted components, featuring a pillar construction and a mainplate made from untreated German silver. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), it incorporates a lever escapement and the shock-resistant Grossmann balance with four inertia screws and two poising screws.
The movement offers a 48-hour power reserve. The finishing has been specially adapted to the character of the watch, with sandblasted surfaces and a train bridge engraved with the number “75,” derived from the “7” and “S” of the Seddiqi logo, an elegant tribute to the retailer’s anniversary.
Completing the design, a hand-sewn vintage brown kudu leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle complements the watch perfectly. The Moritz Grossmann TEFNUT Seddiqi 75th Anniversary Edition is limited to just seven pieces. It’s priced at 116,000 AED.
