A Tribute to Italian History and the Art of Bronze Casting in the City of Venice
Venezianico has long embodied Italy’s rich history through many of its past releases, and today, it unveils its latest creation, inspired by the art of bronze casting. This metal holds profound significance in Italy’s past, from the armor of Roman legions to the sculptures of Donatello and other Italian artisans who mastered this craft.
For centuries, bronze has been an integral part of Venice’s history, from the legendary Horses of Saint Mark, one of the city’s most famous bronze landmarks, to the many blacksmith workshops that have preserved the art of metal casting and craftsmanship. Venice has always been a hub of excellence in this field, where artisans have transformed bronze into refined and timeless works of art. This rich craftsmanship is reflected in Venezianico’s latest release, the Redentore Bronzo. Each case is cast in a mold and then meticulously hand-finished, highlighting the unique characteristics of this noble material.
The Redentore Bronzo is inspired by the legendary Horses of Saint Mark and the centuries-old Venetian bronze craftsmanship. Bronze has been used in many iconic sculptures and has been refined by Venetian artisans for generations, giving each watch case a distinct texture and patina that evolves over time. A natural patina forms on the surface due to oxidation and exposure to environmental factors, enhancing the watch’s unique and characterful appeal.
The case is crafted from QAl9-4 bronze alloy, primarily composed of copper blended with aluminum and iron. This composition provides high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and outstanding durability against external elements.
The case maintains the iconic design of the Redentore collection, measuring 40mm in diameter and just 10mm in thickness, striking a balance between robustness and elegance. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.
The 316L stainless steel caseback, secured with six screws, prevents the bronze patina from coming into contact with the skin while ensuring long-term durability. The engraving on the caseback draws inspiration from the Horses of St. Mark, a lasting symbol of Venetian art and heritage. A combination of sandblasted and radial satin finishes enhances the intricate details, paying homage to classic craftsmanship.
The dial is where the artistry truly comes to life. Each one undergoes a meticulous artisanal finishing process, making every watch unique. Crafted from a soft brass alloy, the dial is treated with a series of techniques, including polishing, satin brushing, and burnishing, to achieve a distinctive aged effect. Selective hand-applied abrasions reveal glimpses of the underlying metal, ensuring no two dials are ever alike. This process creates a deep texture that evokes the passage of time, captured in a single moment.
Powering the watch is the Miyota 9039, a no-date automatic movement from the renowned Miyota 9000 series. Known for its thin profile and reliability, the movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
Completing the timepiece is an Italian leather strap, chosen to complement the organic appeal of the bronze case. The Redentore Bronzo is a limited edition of 300 pieces, priced at EUR 615 (approximately 2,500 AED).
