A Tungsten Bezel and Natural Turquoise Dial, the Italian Brand’s Latest Diving Watch
Venezianico has long used its Nereide diving watch collection as a canvas to showcase craftsmanship and traditional decorative techniques. Over the years, the line has featured remarkable dials that celebrate Italian artistry, ranging from a striking coral dial to a refined malachite green dial, and more recently, a stunning Damascus titanium version. Each creation reflects the brand’s deep-rooted connection to its heritage while venturing into innovative expressions rarely seen in haute horlogerie.
Now, the Italian brand introduces the Nereide Turchese, a timepiece that honors the centuries-old journey of turquoise, a stone once traded along ancient routes from Persia to Venice. Cherished for its vivid hue and protective symbolism, turquoise became a prized material in Venetian artisan workshops. This new edition pays homage to that legacy.
The 42 mm case, crafted in 316L stainless steel, maintains the signature design of the Nereide collection with a thickness of 12.5 mm. Its unidirectional rotating bezel receives a distinctive upgrade, being made of robust tungsten, a dense, scratch-resistant metal. The indices and numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova BGW9, which glows in a crisp blue. On the caseback, an engraving of the historic Nereide submarine reinforces the maritime spirit of the collection, while ensuring the watch’s 200-meter water resistance.
The highlight is undoubtedly the dial, made from natural turquoise stone. Its vibrant hue and irregular veins recall the waters of the Venetian lagoon, with each piece offering a unique pattern. The stone is precision-cut to just 0.4 mm and layered on a brass base. Applied indices and hands are treated with Super-LumiNova, while the date window sits discreetly at 3 o’clock with a white background for legibility.
Crafting a turquoise dial requires extreme care due to the stone’s fragility. It is shaped through cold cutting to preserve its integrity, followed by meticulous finishing and polishing using fine-grain abrasives. The result is a compact, luminous surface that enhances the material’s natural brilliance.
Inside beats the Sellita SW200-1, a proven automatic caliber operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), with a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Reliable and durable, it underscores Venezianico’s balance of artistry and functionality.
Completing the design, the Nereide Turchese is fitted with a light blue rubber strap that harmonizes with the dial, secured by a stainless steel folding clasp. This limited edition of 500 pieces launches on August 27, priced at EUR 920 which is equivalent to AED 3,950.
