Boldly Designed, The Flying Tourbillon
Vanguart was established in 2017 by a team of four individuals: Thierry Fisher, Jeremy Frelechox, Axel Leuenberger, and Mehmet Korutürk. Axel Leuenberger, who has a background at APRP (Audemars Piguet Renaud Papi), serves as the CEO and is the mastermind behind the watch’s design. The role of Creative Director is held by Thierry Fisher. Jeremy Frelechox, with 15 years at APRP and six years at Girard-Perregaux under his belt, is the CTO. Lastly, Mehmet Korutürk, who has a finance background and previously worked for a private equity firm owning an F1 team, is the Chairman of Vanguart.
Their first watch called The black hole was introduced in 2021, it features an unusual way of telling the time using three discs, which indicate the hours, the tens of minutes and the minutes. Their latest creation is called Vanguart Orb.
The Vanguart Orb flying tourbillon boasts a round case that compliments the overall symmetrical theme of the timepiece. It is 41mm in diameter and has a 10.5mm thickness (including the crystal), it is also fully manually finished combining multiple techniques to highlight different surfaces. Sandblasted body offsets the brushed satin ring around the crystal with a clean mirror-like polishing on both sides of the watch creating a beautiful symmetry aesthetic for the case band, with the crown located on the 3 o’clock side. The case comes in two material options, rose gold and Titanium which gives it a sporty look. The sapphire crystals in the front and back of the Orb offer the beholder a full view of the complex maze of the movement’s gears and jewels.
Speaking of gears and jewels. The openworked dial of this watch is designed to be as symmetrical as the case, with Super-LumiNova coating for hour and minute hands alongside a PVD-coated titanium inner bezel also with Super-LumiNova hour indices, where the 12 o’clock position showcases a double indices, and the Vanguart logo is printed on the upper side of the crystal. The sandblast theme even extends to the grade 5 titanium bridges.

at the 6 o’clock position the flying tourbillon is located while the mainspring barrel is situated on the 12 o'clock position and it comes with a pretty cool feature, a manual / automatic indicator is engraved on top of the barrel where the movement can be set to an automatic or manual mode via the crown. The implementation of this feature is unique, as the dial is surrounded by a 2mm diamond-set orbital oscillating mass, which floats freely on a PVD-coated titanium track in the automatic setting, and it locks into place while the manual mode is set. With a 60 hour power reserve, and 21,600 vph (3 Hz).
Vanguart adopted a quick-release strap; this system uses a pair of push buttons on the back side to quickly remove and swap the strap of the timepiece. The straps themselves come in rubber or leather with rose gold or titanium buckles that match the case of each watch.
