A smaller, more elegant take on the German brand’s classic release
Union Glashütte has refreshed its Viro Date collection, introducing a sleeker design and a mechanical upgrade. Originally launched in 2008 and refined in 2016, the latest iteration of the Viro Date embraces contemporary proportions while maintaining its versatile appeal.
The stainless steel case measures 39mm in diameter with a slim 9.25mm profile, making it more compact than previous models, which measured 41mm. It features a lug-to-lug measurement of 47.66mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on a variety of wrist sizes. Both the front and back are fitted with sapphire crystals treated with an anti-reflective coating, while a screwed-on caseback ensures 100m of water resistance.
The Viro Date now comes in four colorways: ice blue, silver, bottle green, and black. The ice blue and bottle green dials feature a sunray-brushed finish, while the silver and black dials opt for a matte aesthetic. The dial includes applied indices with nickel-plated hands coated with Super-LumiNova, and a red-tipped seconds hand adds a subtle pop of contrast. Additionally, the date window is positioned at 6 o’clock.
Powering the watch is the UNG-07.S1, an automatic movement based on the ETA 2892. It features a silicon balance spring for improved accuracy and resistance to magnetism. The movement originally operated at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) but was adjusted to 25,200 vph (3.5Hz) to extend the power reserve from 42 to 60 hours.
The collection offers two strap options: a stainless steel bracelet, available for the ice blue, black, and bottle green dials, or a black calfskin leather strap, paired with the silver dial. Both feature a double-fold fastener with push-buttons and a quick-change spring system for versatility.
