Introducing Underdog Studio Reissues Gen 3 Watches from the Series 01 Collection

Founded by Richard Bank in 2021, Studio UnderD0g quickly gained recognition for its playful designs inspired by natural elements. Over the years, the brand has released several collections that reflect this theme, including four notable releases in 2021. Now, the brand has reimagined these designs with fresh updates and a new movement, distinguishing them from their predecessors. These refreshed editions are part of the new Series 01 collection, which includes the "Watermelon," "Mint Shock Ship," "Desert Sky," and "Goofy Panda" Gen 3 watches.

The updates made by the brand for these editions include a redesigned case that retains the same shape as the previous four models, but with a reduced thickness. The case is now slimmer at 12.9 mm, 0.7 mm thinner than the previous editions, and features a sleek, robust design crafted from polished and brushed stainless steel. With a diameter of 38.5 mm and a lug width of 44.5 mm, the watch maintains a balanced and elegant appearance. The updates also extend to the case crown, which has been enlarged to make winding easier. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal, ensuring both exceptional durability and clear visibility. The case back, also made from sapphire crystal, has been increased in size to provide a clearer view of the movement.

While the changes are subtle in terms of overall appearance, they significantly enhance the comfort and practicality of the watch, making it even more user-friendly without altering the core character of the original designs. In terms of the dials, the only new addition from the brand that distinguishes this collection from previous generations is the proud inscription "Assembled in Great Britain," a nod to the brand’s heritage and its British roots. The dials of the Series 1 collection are as unique as their names, each inspired by distinct elements or concepts. The Watermel0n dial features a vibrant green tachymeter scale, a pink base, and seed-shaped hour indexes, evoking the refreshing watermelon fruit.

The Mint Ch0c Chip takes on a rich green tone with cream and chocolate accents, complemented by chocolate chip-shaped hour indexes.

The Desert Sky, with its warm sandy and blue hues, and the Go0fy Panda, with its black and white theme, complete the quartet.

All dials share a two-tone design, with a sandblasted base and a coarse-grained top dial, creating a textured effect, and are coated with Super-LumiNova on the hands for enhanced visibility in low light. Each model is framed by a tachymeter scale and includes numbered sub-dials with a track minute scale at 9 o'clock for small seconds, engraved with a snailed pattern, and at 3 o'clock for a 30-minute chronograph, contributing to the dynamic and bold aesthetic of these timepieces. Despite the simple updates to the overall design, the brand felt no need to alter the dials, which have undoubtedly been a major factor in the collection’s popularity.

The most significant and bold change in these four new editions lies in the movement that powers them. The watches are equipped with the Seagull ST-1901B movement, a hand-wound chronograph featuring a horizontal clutch and column wheel. This decision to use a Seagull movement was not taken lightly by Studio Underd0g. Seagull, a renowned Chinese movement manufacturer, requires a minimum order of 10,000 units when supplying its movements, a substantial commitment, especially for a brand still in its early stages. However, Studio Underd0g, fueled by the overwhelming popularity of its previous releases, felt confident in their ability to meet this demand. The ST-1901B movement features a sleek all-black main plate and a new regulator for enhanced precision. Regulated to a more accurate -10/+15 seconds per day, an improvement over the previous specification of -15/+35 seconds the movement operates at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers a 50-hour power reserve, or 45 hours when the chronograph is engaged.

The watches come with a Saffiano leather strap and a stainless steel pin buckle. They will be available for pre-order on the 19th of November 2024, for 9 hours between 3 PM and 12 AM GMT, via underd0g.com, at a price of EUR 600 (approximately AED 2,400).
