New references introduce modern materials and the Maison’s first luminous dial
When Louis Cartier created the first Santos watch in 1904 for Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, his mission was to introduce a new idea: a wristwatch that combined utility with elegance. More than a century later, that same spirit continues to define the Santos de Cartier. It remains one of the few designs that can evolve entirely while retaining its unmistakable identity. This year, Cartier expands the collection with two striking interpretations that reimagine the Maison’s first pilot’s watch through modern materials. One features a fully bead-blasted titanium case, while the other arrives in steel with a black luminous dial.
Both models share a 39.8 mm diameter and 9.38 mm thickness. The titanium model is crafted from bead-blasted titanium, a material that is 43% lighter and one and a half times harder than steel. It presents a deep anthracite tone that feels tougher and more contemporary than anything previously seen in the Santos line. The heptagonal crown is set with a faceted black spinel, adding a subtle touch of contrast.
The black dial model features a stainless-steel case finished in fine satin brushing, paired with a heptagonal crown set with a blue synthetic spinel that stands out beautifully against the darker tones of the dial. Both models are designed for everyday wear and offer water resistance up to 100 meters.

The titanium version features a silvered opaline dial complemented by elegant blue sword-shaped hands and a date positioned at 6 o’clock. The black dial model introduces Super-LumiNova to the Santos collection for the first time. Its dial is divided into two distinct finishes: a vertical satin texture inside the railway track and a sunburst motif radiating outward. The white Roman numerals and minute track are coated with green-glowing Super-LumiNova, while the black steel hands receive the same treatment, ensuring clarity even in low light.

Both watches are powered by Cartier’s in-house automatic caliber 1847 MC. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and provides a power reserve of 42 hours. The titanium version comes with a bead-blasted titanium bracelet and a grey nubuck alligator strap, while the black dial model includes a steel bracelet with the SmartLink sizing system and an additional anthracite-grey nubuck alligator strap. Both models are equipped with Cartier’s QuickSwitch interchangeable system.
