Celebration of the growth of the basketball women’s league
One notable aspect of Tissot's legacy is its extensive collaborations, spanning various industries and domains. Particularly prominent among these partnerships is its association with the NBA, where Tissot serves as the official timekeeper of the sport. This collaboration has seen the creation of exclusive timepieces tailored to basketball enthusiasts and players alike.
Given Tissot's significant role within the NBA, it seems only fitting that the brand extends its timekeeping prowess to the women's leagues. Recently, during the 2024 WNBA Draft held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on April 15, 2024, in New York, Tissot unveiled a bespoke 40mm Seastar model. This release marked a collaborative effort between Tissot, Wilson Sporting Goods, and the WNBA.
The timepiece boasts a 40mm diameter stainless steel case with a thickness measuring 12.5mm, with a beautiful brushed finish. Designed for diving, the watch features a screw-down crown shielded by crown guards ensuring 300m water resistance, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. Notably, the bezel's countdown area is accented in a contrasting color, drawing inspiration from the hues of Wilson's Official Basketball of the WNBA (orange, white, and black), and the transparent glass covering the movement displays a basketball print.
Additionally the bezel is black with an orange countdown section dedicated to diving times, and the countdown area is calibrated to 24 minutes, aligning with the iconic 24-second shot clock in basketball (the time a team may possess the ball before attempting to score a field goal).
The dial comes in either black or white (for the quartz variant). The indices and hands are enhanced with Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility in low-light conditions, while the central seconds hand stands out in orange, complemented by a luminous pip and a T-shaped counterweight. Additionally, the dial features a date window positioned at 6 o'clock.
The watch is powered by the Tissot Powermatic 80, an automatic movement that operates at 21,600vph (3Hz) and offers 80 hours of power reserve. Two straps are offered in orange or white that are made of WIlson WNBA Evo-NXT Composite Game Ball Material, with a steel pin buckle and a quick-release interchangeable system. The watch is priced at CHF 695 which is equivalent to AED 2,800.
