Introducing The Updated Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges

In the 1860s, Swiss watchmaker Constant Girard began conceptualizing a new pocket watch design that incorporated three bridges. He elevated the function of the bridge from a purely structural element to an aesthetic feature. In 1867, he revealed a pocket tourbillon watch featuring three parallel nickel silver bridges, introducing a new design philosophy. By 1889, these bridges were refined with noble metals, culminating in the release of the iconic Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, one of the oldest recognized mechanical signatures in horology.

In 2021, Girard-Perregaux introduced the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges, a modern watch with exceptional style. Crafted in the brand’s Grand Complications Atelier and inspired by the iconic 1889 pocket watch. This year, the brand enhances this intricate watch with subtle updates that may go unnoticed at first glance. The sapphire crystals, front and back, maintain their 'box' style but are now more curved and symmetrical when viewed from the side. The watch now comes with a larger, and rounder crown that makes handling easier, while the overall design of the watch has been refined for smoother contours. By shortening the lugs and rounding the middle of the case, the design team has improved comfort, particularly for those with slimmer wrists.

Additionally, the watch features newly designed indexes, including twin batons at 12 o’clock, while the hour and minute hands are now satin-finished and infused with more Super-LumiNova, improving readability in low light. The watch comes with two straps: a new fabric-effect strap, first seen on last year’s Neo Constant Escapement, and an additional black alligator strap with a gold effect.

The 44mm 18k rose gold case of the watch has been slightly slimmed down, with the thickness reduced from 15.52mm to 15.35mm. Despite this adjustment, the timepiece still features a stunning openworked dial with gold hands, titanium bridges treated with black PVD, and a one-minute tourbillon positioned at 6 o'clock. It is still powered by the in-house automatic caliber GP09400-1273, which includes a white gold micro-rotor beneath the barrel. Operating at 21,600 vph (3Hz), this movement provides a 60-hour power reserve. The price is CHF 164,000, equivalent to AED 710,000.
