A limited edition inspired by the iconic Mercedes-Benz "Gullideckel" rim
Union Glashütte has long celebrated the golden age of motoring through its annual limited-edition watches created for the Deutschland Klassik rally, a classic car event in Germany organized by Europe’s largest automobile club, ADAC. Rooted in Saxony’s historic watchmaking town of Glashütte, the brand blends traditional German engineering with design cues drawn from iconic automobiles.
This year, Union continues its automotive tribute with the Noramis Date Deutschland Klassik 2025, a timepiece inspired by the “Gullideckel” rim, a flat, circular wheel design that became a hallmark of 1980s Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The watch is housed in a 40mm stainless steel case that strikes a fine balance between sportiness and refinement, measuring just 10.4mm thick. Brushed and polished surfaces give it a distinctive aesthetic, while a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment protects the dial.
Flip the watch over and you’ll find a sapphire exhibition caseback by default, but Union also includes a special stainless steel medallion caseback engraved with a map of Germany. It marks both Glashütte, the brand’s hometown, and Heidelberg, the start and finish point of the 2025 Deutschland Klassik rally. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters.
The silver dial is styled after the Gullideckel rim, featuring fifteen rectangular cut-outs around the edge, along with five tiny screws at the center to evoke wheel nuts. A black railroad-style minute track adds contrast, while black PVD-coated hands tipped with white Super-LumiNova ensure legibility in low light. The central seconds hand is similarly accented, and a framed date display sits cleanly at 6 o’clock.
Powering the watch is the automatic calibre UNG-07.S1, an upgraded version of the reliable ETA 2892. It incorporates a silicon balance spring for enhanced magnetic resistance and long-term stability, operates at a frequency of 25,200 vph (3.5 Hz), and offers a 60-hour power reserve.
It comes fitted with a black calfskin leather strap featuring contrast stitching and a diamond-pattern embossing reminiscent of vintage sports car interiors. A double-folding clasp with push-buttons secures the watch to the wrist. The watch is limited to just 200 numbered pieces and is priced at EUR 2,780, approximately AED 11,800.
