A limited edition inspired by the iconic “Great Werkmeister” racing car
Founded in 1893 in the historic watchmaking town of Glashütte, Union Glashütte has long been celebrated for crafting timepieces that blend German precision with timeless style. Over the years, the brand has built strong ties to the world of classic motorsports, creating special editions that pay tribute to automotive icons through its Noramis and Belisar collections. Continuing that tradition, Union Glashütte now introduces the Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2025, a tribute to one of East Germany’s most fascinating vintage racing cars.
Inspired by the one-off Grosser Werkmeister roadster, designed in 1952 by Georg Werkmeister with help from aerodynamic specialist George Hufnagel, the watch borrows cues from the car’s aluminum body and dashboard to create a chronograph with retro charm.
The watch features a stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter and 14.45mm in thickness, combining polished and brushed finishes for a refined look. A domed sapphire crystal covers both the front and the exhibition caseback, which offers a solid 100 meters of water resistance. Secured with four screws, the sapphire caseback showcases both the movement and the engraved edition number, one of just 350 pieces. A quick-set date function is adjusted via a corrector positioned at 10 o’clock.
The silver-toned dial is finished with hand-applied perlage, echoing the circular motifs found on the Werkmeister’s dashboard. Black subdials display the chronograph minutes and small seconds, with a date window integrated at 9 o’clock. Both counters are framed by chrome rings, while red chronograph hands add vintage flair. The black hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility in low light.
Inside ticks the UNG-27.S2 automatic chronograph calibre, Union Glashütte’s proprietary upgrade of the Valjoux 7753 architecture. Beating at 28,800 vph (4Hz), it features a silicon balance spring for improved accuracy and magnetic resistance, and offers a 65-hour power reserve.
The watch is paired with a black calfskin leather strap featuring silver-grey stitching and a double folding clasp with push-button release. Limited to 350 pieces, the Union Glashütte Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2025 is priced at €3,600 (approximately AED 15,400).
