Marking the anniversary of the brand’s founder with two limited editions
Union Glashütte has long stood for a distinctly Saxon approach to watchmaking, combining traditional craftsmanship with accessible pricing. The brand aims to deliver finely made mechanical watches without distancing itself from a wider audience.

The 1893 collection embodies this philosophy, named after the year Johannes Dürrstein established Union Uhrenfabrik in Glashütte. To mark the anniversary of its founder, Union Glashütte introduces the 1893 Johannes Dürrstein Anniversary Editions, offered in two interpretations that express the same design language through different proportions and displays.

The watches are housed in stainless steel cases crafted from 316L steel. The Large Second version measures 41 mm in diameter with a thickness of 11.8 mm, while the Small Second comes in at 34 mm with a slimmer 9.6 mm profile. Both cases feature softly rounded contours and are topped with a domed sapphire crystal treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Turning the watches over reveals sapphire casebacks that allow a view of the movement inside. Water resistance differs between the two models, with the Large Second rated to 100 metres and the Small Second offering water resistance of 50 metres.

The dials are finished in a refined taupe tone and defined by subtle contrasts in texture. A finely grained outer area surrounds a sandblasted inner section, separated by a polished silver ring that adds depth to the composition. Heat-blued hands provide a visual link to traditional Glashütte finishing. On the Large Second, the hours and minutes are displayed off-centre on the left side of the dial, balanced by an oversized seconds display on the right with a date window. The Small Second adopts a more classical layout, with central hours and minutes and a subsidiary seconds counter positioned at 6 o’clock with a date window.

Powering the watches are automatic Union Glashütte movements derived from proven ETA architectures. The Large Second is equipped with the calibre U 2899-993, while the Small Second uses the calibre U 2895-2. Both movements operate at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offer a power reserve of 42 hours.
Both models are paired with a black calfskin leather strap, secured by a double-folding clasp with push-buttons. Each model is limited to 99 pieces, with prices set at EUR 1,960, approximately AED 8,450, for the Large Second and EUR 1,780, approximately AED 7,650, for the Small Second.
