A watch that pays homage to the British band's recent album, Memento Mori
Hublot, the luxury Swiss watchmaker, has a history of engaging in philanthropic efforts, including raising funds for various environmental and humanitarian causes. One notable partnership has been with the iconic British band Depeche Mode. Since their first collaboration announcement fourteen years ago, Hublot and Depeche Mode have dedicated themselves to raising public awareness and funds for important causes. With each subsequent tour of Depeche Mode, Hublot has renewed their commitment to these efforts.
Through special edition watches, Hublot has contributed significantly to raising over USD $2.3 million for organizations such as the Teenage Cancer Trust and other charities. This ongoing partnership exemplifies Hublot's commitment to making a positive impact beyond the world of luxury timepieces, demonstrating their dedication to social responsibility and giving back to communities in need.
Hublot now presents the latest addition to the Spirit of Big Bang collection: the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode. This watch serves as a homage to the British band's most recent album and global tour, Memento Mori, emphasizing the importance of living in the moment and contemplating the significance of time.
The iconic tonneau shape case is crafted from black ceramic featuring sandblasted finishes with Hublot's renowned All Black aesthetic, measuring 42 mm in diameter and 13.8 mm in thickness. At the heart of the dial, lies a skull with small black ceramic spheres arranged to symbolize the ebb and flow of life, mirroring the concept of Memento Mori. This Latin phrase, translating to 'remember you must die', encourages contemplation of life's impermanence. Positioned alongside the dial at 6 o'clock are the initials DM, representing the logo of the British band. The dial showcases pyramid-shaped studs indices, a motif that is mirrored on the black ceramic bezel, and the hands are skeletonized.
Powering the watch is the HUB1710_SD caliber, an automatic movement that operates at 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offers a 50-hour power reserve. The watch is limited to 100 pieces, each accompanied by two easily interchangeable straps facilitated by the patented One Click system. The first strap is crafted from recycled materials and Velcro, aligning with the Conservation Collective's plastic pollution initiatives. The second strap, made of black rubber, features a black titanium folding clasp for secure closure. The “Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode” is priced at CHF 31,000 which is equivalent to AED 130,000.
