A Red Gold Case And An Astronomical Movement Paying Tribute To The Chinese New Year
Arnold & Son celebrates the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse, by unveiling an exclusive edition of the Perpetual Moon 41.5 in red gold, limited to just eight pieces. This timepiece continues the brand’s distinguished series dedicated to the Chinese zodiac, reflecting the identity of its iconic astronomical collection. Spanning 2026 and 2027, the Year of the Fire Horse imposes its bold astrological character on devotees of haute horlogerie and the métiers d’art.
This edition embodies the maison’s interpretation of the Fire Horse, which succeeds the Year of the Wood Snake on February 17, 2026. For the sixth consecutive year, Arnold & Son renews its celebration of the Chinese New Year, drawing on its full artistic expertise and creative craftsmanship. Miniature painting, three-dimensional engraving, and delicate gem-setting converge with the refined finishing of its astronomical movement—featuring dual moon-phase indications—to present the Perpetual Moon 41.5 in red gold as a special edition that captures the spirit of the Year of the Horse with exceptional artistic distinction.
The watch is housed in a red gold case measuring 41.5 mm in diameter and 11.67 mm in thickness, exemplifying Arnold & Son’s mastery of both fine watchmaking and sculptural artistry. Sapphire crystals protect both the dial and the case back, while the slender bezel maximizes the visual impact of the display. Positioned on the right side, the crown and pusher allow for manual winding and time-setting. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.
Dominating the dial, a rearing horse stands atop a hill—its commanding silhouette carved against a star-studded sky and surrounded by the sparks of a metaphorical fire. Beyond the scene’s expressive power lies the depth of Arnold & Son’s craftsmanship. The horse, rendered as an 18-carat red gold appliqué, is entirely hand-engraved, from hooves to flowing mane. The black aventurine sky shimmers like a vast celestial expanse, where distant stars mingle with mountainous reliefs and shadowy woodland undergrowth.
In the horse’s wake, hand-painted golden dust forms a trail of sparks that ignite sequentially as the animal surges forward, symbolizing its inner fire and untamed spirit. Subtle touches of red and yellow Super-LumiNova, emitting identical nocturnal hues, transform the scene as darkness falls. Beneath the radiant mother-of-pearl moon, the horse’s silhouette becomes even more striking, while glowing embers intensify. Nearby, the constellations of Cassiopeia and Ursa Major emerge on the lunar disc, completing this dual-faced, dual-display dial.
Powering the watch is the manually wound A&S1021 calibre, an in-house movement offering a 90-hour power reserve from two barrels. Operating at a frequency of 3 Hz. The movement’s finishing includes a rhodium-plated mainplate with circular graining, chamfered bridges adorned with radiating Côtes de Genève, and other meticulous details.
The case back features a secondary moon phase display, allowing precise adjustments to the moon age. The lunar cycle’s duration 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.8 seconds, is faithfully represented, with the movement requiring 122 years to accumulate a mere 24-hour discrepancy if consistently wound.
The watch is paired with a black alligator leather strap secured by a red gold pin buckle. The Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold “Year of the Horse” is limited to only eight pieces and is priced at CHF 62,600, approximately AED 287,400.
