The third collaboration between the two brands revives an iconic design from 1968
To celebrate the special edition introduced by TAG Heuer in 1968, the "Seafarer" Reference 2446C, the company has collaborated with the Hodinkee platform to present the special edition "TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Seafarer x Hodinkee." This marks the third collaboration between the two brands.
Designed as a modern revival of the legendary Abercrombie & Fitch Seafarer, which TAG Heuer produced for the sporting goods retailer from the 1950s through the 1970s, this edition brings the spirit of the past to today's adventures. The watch retains the distinctive color scheme and bezel aesthetics of the 1968 model while fully embracing the contemporary essence of TAG Heuer. The most notable feature of the watch is the tide indicator, a tool used by sailors and surfers to gauge the state of the sea.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Seafarer x Hodinkee is a modern interpretation of the original from 1968. It is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a domed sapphire crystal, offering essential durability for a watch dedicated to water activities. While the time-setting crown and chronograph pushers are located on the right side of the case, the tide-setting pusher is uniquely positioned on the left at 9 o’clock.
Staying true to the original's color palette, the black dial is crafted from opaline and is accented with shades of sky and royal blue. In keeping with the bezel-less design of the Carrera, the watch maintains the aesthetic of the original by incorporating the bezel within the rehaut, also in matching black opaline. The black opaline flange, three sub-dials, Seafarer logo at 6 o’clock, and black sub-dials at 3 o’clock for the 30-minute counter and at 6 o’clock for the 12-hour counter, along with the sub-dial at 9 o'clock serving as the tide indicator, all contribute to the watch's cohesive design. The dark blue color indicates the high tide, while the light blue color represents the low tide, corresponding to the time of day. This indicator completes a full cycle every 29 days, in sync with the moon’s rotation around the Earth.
The Seafarer logo has been relocated to the sub-register at 6 o’clock, utilizing a Carrera font inspired by the distinctive blocky type of the original reference. The collaboration preserves the essence of the late Reference 2446C Seafarer while consciously looking forward, as evidenced by the inclusion of the present-day TAG Heuer and Carrera logos at 12 o’clock. True to the heritage of the Seafarer, the customary date window seen in contemporary Carrera models has been omitted.
Powering this timepiece is the automatic Caliber TH20-13, part of the TAG Heuer Caliber TH20 family, featuring a column wheel chronograph movement. It beats at 28,800 VPH and offers an 80-hour power reserve. The watch is paired with a black textured rubber strap, providing a modern and rugged touch.
This limited edition of 968 pieces will be available with 125 units offered through Hodinkee's online shop, while the remaining pieces will be available at TAG Heuer boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Seafarer × Hodinkee is priced at USD 7,950, approximately AED 29,200.
