Introducing The New Seiko Prospex Alpinist Night Sky SPB531

A European-exclusive limited edition with a dark blue dial

Seiko’s reputation for crafting purpose-driven timepieces is built on decades of innovation, and the Alpinist is a clear example of that legacy. Originally launched in 1959 as Japan’s first dedicated mountaineering watch, the Alpinist was designed for mountain men, who sought both reliability and utility in rugged conditions. Over the years, it has evolved from a specialist tool into a beloved icon within the brand’s Prospex collection. This year, Seiko introduces the new limited-edition Prospex Alpinist Night Sky SPB531, exclusive to the European market.

The watch features a 39.5mm stainless steel case, measuring 13.2mm thick with a 46.4mm lug-to-lug span, ensuring a comfortable fit on most wrists. Polished and brushed finishing adds visual depth, while a secondary crown at 4 o’clock controls the inner rotating compass bezel. The screwed see-through caseback offers a view of the movement inside. Like most modern Prospex models, the SPB531 is built tough with a water resistance rating of 200 meters.

The vertically brushed dark blue dial is designed to evoke the atmosphere of mountain nights. Applied indices alternate between Arabic numerals and triangle markers. Cathedral-style hands filled with LumiBrite ensure visibility in low light, while the seconds hand is rendered in a gold tone. The date window at 3 o’clock is enhanced with a magnifier.

Inside ticks Seiko’s reliable Caliber 6R35, an automatic movement operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) with a 70-hour power reserve. The SPB531 comes in a special edition box with two straps, a dark blue calf leather strap embossed to resemble crocodile skin and an additional textured blue nylon strap. Both are fitted with a three-fold steel clasp.

This is a limited edition of 3,000 pieces, made exclusively for the European market. Priced at CHF 930, approximately AED 4,300, it will be available starting September 2025.
