Richard Mille says goodbye to a diving icon with an exclusive limited edition release
When it comes to creativity, few brands steal the spotlight quite like Richard Mille. The French brand is known for breaking boundaries in design and engineering, their creations aren’t just watches, they are elevated to become statements. Thanks to materials like carbon fiber, ceramics, and quartz, Richard Mille watches are lightweight yet durable, with cutting-edge tech that gives unique aesthetics. It’s no wonder they’re a favorite among collectors and worn by some of the world’s most influential figures.
Back in 2011, Richard Mille shook things up with the RM 032. Unlike their signature tonneau-shaped cases, this diving watch featured a round design and was purpose-built to handle the extremes of underwater exploration. It wasn’t just made to impress, it was made to perform. And perform it did, earning its stripes on the wrist of free-diving legend and brand ambassador Arnaud Jerald. With eight world records to his name, Jerald has taken the RM 032 to incredible depths, proving its mettle in the harshest conditions.
Now, Richard Mille is bidding farewell to this collection with the release of the RM 032 Flyback Chronograph Ultimate Edition. As the final piece in the RM 032 line, it’s more than just a watch, it’s a celebration of a legacy that has redefined what a dive watch can be. The watch features a case structure crafted from lightweight yet exceptionally robust materials, including grade 5 titanium and Carbon TPT inserts. It measures 50 mm in diameter and 17.80 mm in thickness, and offers an impressive water resistance of up to 300 meters.
The fixed bezel is made of brushed grade 5 titanium with polished bevels, while the unidirectional rotating bezel is constructed from microblasted (sandblast on a micro level) DLC-coated grade 5 titanium. This is topped with an additional bezel layer made of Carbon TPT, securely fastened with eight distinctive star-shaped screws. For added functionality, the crown and pushers can be locked by rotating a ring on the crown, with a green indicator for unlocked and red for locked. This mechanism protects the movement from potential damage caused by excessive pressure or impact on the crown, while ensuring enhanced water resistance by maintaining optimal pressure on the seals.
The skeletonized dial reveals a PVD-treated grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges, offering a striking view of the watch's intricate mechanics. Key features include a blue tachymeter scale and a prominent big date display positioned at the top of the dial, with digits displayed on two DLC-coated titanium discs. A month indicator with Arabic numerals is situated between 4 and 5 o’clock, and as an annual calendar, the watch only requires adjustment once per year.
At 6 o’clock, you’ll find a 12-hour counter, while at 3 o’clock, a running indicator labeled "Indicateur de Marche" (French for "Power Indicator") replaces the traditional small seconds sub-dial. This feature ensures the movement is functioning correctly even under demanding conditions. The running indicator consists of a Super-LumiNova disc rotating at 2 RPM, positioned beneath black segments outlined on the dial, providing excellent visibility both day and night.
The watch is driven by RMAC2 caliber, an automatic movement equipped with a geometric rotor, featuring a central flange made of grade 5 titanium and an 18K white gold weight segment. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz), and delivers a power reserve of 50 hours. The timepiece comes with a black or yellow rubber strap, and is limited to 80 pieces, with the price being upon request.
