A pocket watch created to honor Michel Parmigiani’s 75th birthday
Parmigiani Fleurier was born from the lifelong dedication of Michel Parmigiani, a watchmaker who spent years restoring historical timepieces before founding his own maison in the Swiss town of Fleurier in 1996 with the support of the Sandoz Family Foundation. His deep respect for traditional craft and classical proportions shaped the identity of the brand. Today, the maison celebrates his 75th birthday with La Ravenale, a unique pocket watch that reflects the founder’s philosophy and the artistic disciplines that define Parmigiani Fleurier.

Created as an objet d’art, the watch draws inspiration from the Traveller’s Palm of Madagascar, a plant known for its perfect symmetry and harmonious geometry. It brings together restoration, hand engraving, stone marquetry, and the revival of a century-old chiming movement to express the values that guided Michel Parmigiani throughout his career.

The pocket watch features an 18k white gold Lépine-style case measuring 51.8 mm in diameter and 13.1 mm in thickness. The case is richly engraved with palm-inspired patterns that echo the natural geometry behind its design. At noon sits an 8 mm crown set with a blue sapphire, while domed anti-reflective sapphire crystals protect both the dial and the movement. The hinged caseback is inlaid with opal and jade marquetry arranged in a harmonious composition. The case is dust-resistant.

The dial is crafted from 18k white gold and treated with a deep blue PVD finish. Its center is engraved with palm motifs that unify the watch’s design language. A smooth chapter ring carries minute markers and applied square white gold hour indices. White gold openworked delta-shaped hands display the hours and minutes, while a small seconds sub-dial sits at 6 o’clock.

Inside the watch is an original ultra-thin minute repeater movement from the 1920s, signed Ed. Koehn, Genève. The calibre has been fully restored by the maison’s Atelier de Restauration and retains its construction, Swiss anchor escapement, and symmetrical hammers. The repeater strikes the hours, quarters, and minutes on two gongs with distinct acoustic tones. The calibre uses a split bimetallic balance with a steel hairspring and includes 27 jewels. The bridges and mainplate are hand-engraved and bevelled.

The watch is accompanied by a handmade 18k white gold chain composed of alternating hexagonal and oval links. Crafted by Laurent Jolliet, Switzerland’s last master chain maker, the chain required nearly one hundred hours of work and measures 32 cm in length. La Ravenale is a unique piece created specifically to honor Michel Parmigiani on his 75th birthday. The price is available upon request.
