A Modern Tribute to the Iconic Left-Handed Diving Watch
Panerai introduced its first left-handed watch in the 1960s with the reference 6152/1, marking a pivotal advancement in the company’s design philosophy. Giuseppe Panerai envisioned a watch specifically for left-handers, to be worn on the right wrist, with a crown-protecting device that prevented leaks during dives and offered enhanced comfort and agility.
The new Panerai Luminor Destro Auto Giorni continues this legacy with a modern twist, featuring a more wearable 44 mm case compared to its 47 mm predecessor. Crafted in polished steel, the case positions the crown on the left side, at 9 o’clock, protected by Panerai’s signature mechanism. Completing the design, the watch includes a polished steel bezel, a transparent screw-down sapphire crystal case back, and a robust water resistance of 300 meters.

The watch boasts a black sandwich dial illuminated by beige Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent legibility in all lighting conditions. A small seconds sub-dial is positioned at 3 o’clock, adding to its functionality.
Inside, the watch is powered by the P.5000 caliber, a hand-wound mechanical movement inspired by the historic Angelus Caliber SF240. With an impressive 8-day power reserve, achieved through two parallel barrels, this movement is visible through a sapphire crystal open case back, showcasing its intricate engineering. The P.5000 has a diameter of 35.1 mm and a thickness of 4.5 mm, with 21 jewels and 113 components. It features a variable inertia balance wheel, oscillating at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), supported by a traversing balance bridge, which provides a more stable fixture than a cantilevered single bridge. This robust bridge design ensures the escapement continues to operate reliably in the event of shocks.
The watch comes with a light brown calf leather strap with beige stitching and a trapezoidal steel buckle, along with a secondary black rubber strap and a screwdriver for convenient strap changes.
Joining the Luminor collection as a permanent edition, the PAM01655 is available exclusively at Panerai boutiques worldwide, priced at CHF 7,200 (approximately 30,000 AED).
