Introducing The New Ming 37.08 Starlight

A new release from the Malaysian brand with a beautiful aventurine stone dial

Ming is a distinguished watch brand established by six watch enthusiasts from around the globe, under the leadership of Ming Thein. Despite being a relatively young brand, Ming has made a significant impact in the world of modern horology. The brand is renowned for its distinctive designs, and stands out for its advanced use of materials, resulting in the lightest watch in the world, weighing just 8.8 grams.

Continuing the theme of elemental watches introduced with the 37.08 Sand last year, the brand now unveils the 37.08 Starlight. This stunning timepiece features an Aventurine stone dial that beautifully mimics a clear night sky.

The timepiece comes in a stainless steel case that is both brushed and polished, measuring 38mm in diameter and 10.9mm in thickness. It boasts a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both the front and back, and is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

The watch is highlighted by its dark-blue aventurine stone dial. It's important not to mistake Aventurine stone for Aventurine glass, as despite their similar names, they differ significantly in composition and origin. Aventurine stone is a naturally occurring variety of quartz characterized by its translucency and the presence of mineral inclusions that give it a shimmering or glistening effect. Aventurine glass, on the other hand, is a man-made material created by incorporating copper or other metallic particles into the glass, which then crystallizes to create a glittering effect.

The dial also features Hyceram (a ceramic/polymer compound) luminescent indices applied to the underside of the sapphire crystal, and the hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova X1, a new form of Super-LumiNova that takes the longest time to become too dim to be useful to the human eye.

The watch is powered by the Sellita for MING SW210.M1 movement, featuring anthracite skeletonized bridges with contrasting rhodium circular brushing. This manual winding movement offers a power reserve of 40 hours and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz).

The 37.08 Starlight comes with a second-generation universal bracelet in stainless steel, featuring a butterfly clasp. It is priced at CHF 4,500, equivalent to AED 18,400, with a total of 300 watches available for 2024.
