Introducing The New Louis Vuitton Escales Autour du Monde ‘Escale en Amazonie’

The most complex watch created by Louis Vuitton

This year, Louis Vuitton released a stunning set of unique Automata timepieces, including the Tambour Bushido Automata, the Tambour Taiko Galactique, and the third and final watch: the Escales Autour du Monde – Escale en Amazonie. This one-of-a-kind pocket watch is the most complicated timepiece ever produced by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the Maison’s Geneva-based manufacture.

The 18K white gold Escale case measures 50mm X 19mm and is set with 60 baguette-cut stones, emeralds, tourmalines, tsavorites, and yellow sapphires, arranged in a gradient around the bezel. Echoing the dial’s Amazonian theme, the case is also engraved with exotic motifs, a process requiring an additional 60 hours of handcraftsmanship.

The dial offers a journey into the heart of the Amazon rainforest, brought to life with automaton-driven scenes inspired by the region’s vivid biodiversity. When the slider at 6 o’clock is activated, a canoe stacked with LV trunks glides along a river flanked by lush foliage. The trunks gently open to reveal golden Monogram flowers that attract nearby wildlife, animated parrots, a snake, a monkey, and a rotating gold compass at 12 o’clock. Altogether, there are seven animations and fifteen independent moving parts, each meticulously handcrafted and designed to move with its own natural rhythm.

The dial incorporates two classic enameling techniques, miniature enamel and paillonné enamel, bringing the rainforest scene to vibrant life. A palette of 31 hues, combined with translucent, opaque, and opalescent enamels, creates a rich sense of depth and light. Even the river shimmers with gold, thanks to the delicate placement of gold foil within the enamel. Each animated component, from animals to foliage, was also hand-painted with enamel to ensure vivid, lifelike detail at an astonishingly small scale.

Behind the dial’s theatrical display is the LFT AU14.03 calibre, a manual-winding movement that offers a 100-hour power reserve and is composed of 555 components. It includes a tourbillon, an automata module, and a minute repeater that chimes the hours, quarters, and minutes. This is the most complex mechanical movement ever created by Louis Vuitton. Uniquely, the hour and minute hands are positioned on the caseback to preserve the dial's uninterrupted spectacle.

The movement features 646 inner angles for bevelling, solid gold wheels, and flame-blued hands. The ratchet wheel alone, which is concave-sculpted, took three weeks to complete. In total, the movement required over 500 hours of assembly and finishing by a single master watchmaker. This exceptional watch is a unique piece, with its price yet to be revealed.
