Introducing The New Konstantin Chaykin Seneca Wristmon Pièce Unique for ELA Organization

Paying tribute to the ancient Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca

When it comes to pushing the boundaries of creativity in horology, Konstantin Chaykin stands in a league of his own. The ingenious Russian inventor and watchmaker never ceases to amaze, known for his highly imaginative designs and the use of unconventional complications. This year was especially exciting for Chaykin, as he not only reached new horizons but also broke the record for the world's thinnest mechanical watch with the release of the ThinKing. We also saw the iconic Joker watch reimagined with a skeletonized dial for the first time.

Konstantin Chaykin views supporting charitable initiatives as an essential mission of modern watchmaking. His charity-focused creations resonate deeply with watch connoisseurs, as he approaches each project with a high level of responsibility and thoughtfulness. Now, Chaykin is unveiling the Seneca Wristmon Pièce Unique, a beautifully elegant timepiece crafted to support the European Leukodystrophy Association (ELA).

Paying tribute to the wisdom of the ancient Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca, the independent watchmaker shared in the press release that he incorporated one of Seneca’s sayings into the design: “Recte facti fecisse merces est” – “The reward for a good deed is its accomplishment.” Chaykin emphasized that this quote captures the true spirit of charity.

Regarding its specifications, the watch features a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter and 12.2 mm in thickness, achieving an ideal balance of elegance and comfort. Both the front and caseback are fitted with sapphire crystals treated with anti-reflective coatings, enhancing clarity and providing an uninterrupted view of the intricate details within.

The dial of the Seneca is gold-plated and sandblasted, featuring two sub-dials with blue indicator tips, with the hour display on the left and the minute display on the right. Positioned at 6 o'clock is the moon phase indicator, framed by a smile. Konstantin Chaykin designed the Seneca Wristmon to resemble a golden mask, inspired by Seneca, who also was one of ancient Rome’s greatest playwrights, as actors often wore masks on stage.

While previous Wristmons featured a day-of-the-week display, the Seneca is the first to include a date display. Additionally, Chaykin integrated Latin letters into the date numerals at 12 o’clock, which form Seneca’s phrase, "Recte facti fecisse merces est," over the course of the month. As a new complication for the Wristmons collection, Chaykin developed the K.18-1 caliber for this watch. This Swiss-made automatic movement is based on the La Joux-Perret G200, modified for Konstantin Chaykin’s manufacture and equipped with the Joker indication module. It operates at 28,800 vph (4Hz) and has a power reserve of 68 hours.

The watch is paired with a black leather strap and features a stainless steel pin buckle. It will be offered at a special Christie’s auction in Geneva on November 11, 2024, with an estimated price range of CHF 15,000-25,000 / AED 63,000-105,000.
