Celebrating 180 years of watchmaking and 315 years of porcelain artistry in Saxony
Founded in 1845, Glashütte Original stands as one of Germany’s foremost watch manufactures, renowned for its commitment to precision, hand-finishing, and technical innovation. Just over an hour away lies the town of Meissen, home to Europe’s first porcelain manufactory, established in 1710. Meissen revolutionized the art of porcelain in Europe by unlocking the secret of hard-paste porcelain, previously mastered only in China. Over the centuries, it became a symbol of refinement and creativity, its hand-painted motifs adorning royal courts and art collections around the world.
To celebrate two remarkable milestones, 180 years of watchmaking in Glashütte and 315 years of Meissen porcelain, Glashütte Original introduces the Senator Meissen Limited Editions, a trio of timepieces that unite two of Saxony’s most storied crafts. Each piece represents a harmonious meeting of mechanical expertise and artistic expression.

The watches are presented in elegant 40 mm 18K red-gold cases, each measuring 10.23 mm thick with a lug-to-lug distance of 47.09 mm. The case combines polished and brushed surfaces, with a domed sapphire crystal featuring anti-reflective coating on both sides protecting the dial, while the sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement within. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.
Each timepiece features a hand-painted Meissen porcelain dial, a masterpiece of craftsmanship in its own right. Every dial begins as a razor-thin porcelain disc fired at approximately 1,400 degrees Celsius to achieve density and perfect flatness. Once cooled, it becomes the painter’s canvas. Using ultra-fine brushes, artists apply multiple layers of paint by hand, each layer fired again at around 900 degrees to lock in color and depth.

Three distinct variants bring this collaboration to life. The first, Mystic Maison in white, features a fine grey ornamental motif hand-painted on a pure white porcelain background. The second, Mystic Maison in celadon green, presents the same motif in a subtle green shade inspired by traditional East Asian ceramics. Both editions are limited to 150 pieces each. The third model, titled Collage, is limited to just 8 pieces and offers a vibrant reinterpretation of Meissen’s historic Dekorwelten vase, with colorful depictions of animals and flowers unfolding across a celadon-green dial. Each dial is pared back to indicate only the hours and minutes through curved solid-gold hands.

The watches are powered by Glashütte Original’s in-house Calibre 36-16, an automatic movement that delivers a 100-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The mechanism features a silicon balance spring for enhanced resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variations, along with a stop-seconds function for precise time setting.
The models are completed with dark blue Louisiana alligator leather straps secured by red-gold pin buckles, while the white Mystic Maison version is delivered with an additional black strap. Prices are set at USD 30,300 (approximately AED 111,300) for the Mystic Maison versions and USD 36,400 (approximately AED 133,700) for the Collage.
