Introducing The New Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Ti49

A Titanium Edition Celebrating 49 Years of the Laureato Collection

Originating in 1975, Girard-Perregaux’s iconic Laureato collection carries a charming story that reflects the company's dedication to serving its customers. This year, in a break from tradition, the brand chose a unique approach to celebrate its 49th anniversary, unveiling the Loreato Chronograph Ti49, an ultra-light version made of titanium. Let us detail the name of the watch. The Italian word “Loreato” means graduate from the institute or university, while the abbreviation Ti is the symbol for the titanium in the periodic table of the elements. This light and hard metal has an exciting story and a major role in the industrial development of many fields, including the watch industry, which we previously discussed in detail in this article.

Throughout its history, the Laureato has undergone numerous transformations, appearing in diverse forms, sizes, materials, and complications. From its debut featuring a quartz movement to its first evolution in 1984, which introduced mechanical calibers, followed by subsequent robust developments, the Laureato has been revitalized by Girard-Perregaux while staying true to its original essence, yet also offering multiple variations. These variations encompass a spectrum of colors, materials, and complications, as evidenced by the latest release from the company featuring a copper dial adorned with diamonds.

Notably, for their chronograph line, the company astounded enthusiasts with their recent carbon edition unveiled during the Geneva Watch Days.

For the new watch it is encased in a 42mm structure, the Laureato Chronograph Ti49 embraces the hallmark design language introduced in its inaugural models. A distinctive octagonal bezel crowns a circular base, nested within a tonneau-shaped casing. The intricate silhouette of the case interacts dynamically with light, thanks to its multifaceted angles, creating interplays of brilliance and shadow. The historical intricacy of crafting the Laureato's bezel, case, and bracelet reaches new heights with the introduction of Grade 5 titanium, a novel addition to the latest generation of the Chronograph series.

The warm tint of this coveted alloy imbues the watch with a welcoming aura. Furthermore, the utilization of Grade 5 titanium allows Girard-Perregaux to bestow the Laureato Chronograph Ti49 with refined, contrasting finishes. Brushed surfaces elegantly complement polished accents. Notably, the circular base, distinct case edges, chronograph pushers, and central bracelet links all gleam brilliantly.

The dial, adorned with a Clous de Paris pattern in gray, is a feature certain to captivate loyal enthusiasts of the brand. Grey PVD-treated baton-style hour and minute hands harmonize with matching baton-type indexes. Both hands and indexes are adorned with white luminescent material, emitting a radiant glow in low light conditions.

The textured dial is punctuated by three snailed subdials, a small seconds sundial at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph counter at 6 o'clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 9 o'clock. Positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock, a date display completes the functional ensemble. The GP logo, brand name, minute track, and markings encircling the counters are elegantly rendered in white, enhancing legibility against the grey backdrop.

Nestled within the lightweight frame of the Laureato Chronograph Ti49 resides the Manufacture Calibre GP03300. This self-winding movement, comprising 419 components, is exquisitely finished. Adorned with various decorative elements, including Côtes de Genève in circular and straight forms, circular graining, and blued steel screws.

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Ti49 is worn on a satin-finished and polished integrated titanium bracelet, closed by a triple-folding clasp. priced at 18,600 CFH which is equivalent to 76,800 AED.
