Chopard celebrates its 30th anniversary with the most complex chiming watch it has ever produced
Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier marks its 30th anniversary with an exceptional achievement in high watchmaking as it introduces the L.U.C Grand Strike. Over the past three decades, the Maison has built a reputation for technical mastery, traditional craftsmanship and continuous innovation. This latest creation represents the pinnacle of its sonnerie expertise, bringing together advanced engineering, proprietary acoustic technology and a deep understanding of Haute Horlogerie. The L.U.C Grand Strike stands as the most complex chiming watch ever produced by Chopard Manufacture, the culmination of years of research, refinement and high precision development.

Rooted in nearly twenty years of sonnerie experience and a decade of sapphire monobloc gong innovation, the L.U.C Grand Strike continues the story that began with the L.U.C Strike One and evolved through landmark pieces such as the L.U.C Full Strike. The watch carries ten patents, either applied or granted, with five developed specifically for this model.
The watch is presented in an 18 carat ethical white gold case that measures 43 mm in diameter and 14.08 mm in thickness. Despite housing 686 components, the proportions remain remarkably wearable. The case features a polished bezel, a vertically satin finished caseband and a polished, hand engraved caseback with a sapphire exhibition crystal. A sliding selector switch for the sonnerie modes is integrated into the case, while the crown includes a built in pusher for activating the minute repeater. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement is fully visible, showcasing its complex architecture.

The watch has no traditional dial, allowing a full view of the calibre. The absence of a dial shifts the focus onto the mechanisms, from the two polished steel hammers at 10 o’clock to the 60 second tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The hands and indicators are crafted in 18 carat ethical white gold, including dauphine power reserve hands, fusée shaped hour and minute hands and a dauphine small seconds hand. The power reserves for both the movement and the sonnerie are displayed concentrically at 2 o’clock, while the strikework mode indicator is also shown on the open display.

The timepiece is powered by the hand wound calibre L.U.C 08.03 L, certified by both the Poinçon de Genève and the COSC. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of 70 hours for timekeeping functions. A separate barrel powers the chiming mechanisms and provides a minimum of 12 hours of autonomy in grande sonnerie mode. The movement also features a patented sapphire crystal gong that creates the distinctive “Sound of Eternity”.

The watch offers grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie and minute repeater functions. Thirty four components coordinate each chime activation, guided by twenty two hand adjusted blade springs. Multiple patents protect the movement from improper use, ensure accurate switching of chiming modes and optimise energy transfer within the sonnerie mechanism.
The watch comes with interchangeable, hand sewn alligator leather straps. Two options are provided, grey alligator with matching lining or dark blue alligator with matching lining. A folding clasp in 18 carat ethical white gold secures the strap. It is priced at CHF 780,000, which is approximately AED 3,580,000.
