A new case crafted from ultra-light Carbonium material
Romain Gauthier has built a reputation for crafting contemporary mechanical creations that blend traditional Swiss savoir-faire with modern design. Since its foundation, the brand has stood out for its independent spirit, innovative engineering, and exceptional hand-finishing. This philosophy shaped the Freedom collection, a line dedicated to modernity and technical expression, and it is within this collection that the C by Romain Gauthier first appeared in 2021. The model introduced a fresh design language and a caliber developed after more than sixteen years of expertise.
In its latest release, the brand presents the C by Romain Gauthier Carbonium Edition, taking the concept in a more technical direction. By using Carbonium for key components, the watch gains a striking appearance and a high degree of resilience while preserving the architectural clarity that defines the collection.
The watch features a Carbonium case measuring 42 mm in diameter, 9.60 mm in thickness, and 50.40 mm from lug to lug. Carbonium is an advanced carbon composite derived from aerospace fibers, chosen for its rigidity and extremely low weight. The material gives the watch a dynamic veined texture and helps reduce the total weight to just 43 grams including the strap and buckle. The bezel is machined into six facets with matte and satin finishes, and the winding crown is positioned at 2 o’clock for improved comfort. A sapphire display back reveals the movement within, framed by a Carbonium ring that mirrors the design of the bezel. The watch is water-resistant to 30 meters.
The dial is crafted from sapphire and features a partially openworked design that reproduces the pattern of Carbonium in a pixelated black and chrome style. The opening reveals parts of the titanium movement beneath, including the seconds wheel and sections of the escapement. Hours and minutes are displayed off-center, while the small seconds sits at 7 o’clock with tapered interval markers. The hands are made from Grade 5 titanium and filled with Super-LumiNova. The numerals and indices are fully luminous and available in several colors such as white, green, blue, yellow, and orange.

Powering the watch is an in-house manual-winding movement measuring 32.10 mm in diameter and 5.50 mm in height. It offers a power reserve of 60 hours and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The movement also includes a stop-seconds mechanism that uses a snail cam to halt the balance when the crown is pulled, then restart it with a small impulse when the crown is pushed back in.

The watch is fitted with a high-grade rubber strap whose central texture echoes the Carbonium pattern. The color of the strap can be matched to the dial accents. A Carbonium pin buckle completes the design and maintains continuity between the materials used throughout the watch.
