A new release from the American brand with a fully blacked out dial
Benrus is an American brand known for combining Swiss precision with U.S.-based design and assembly. Founded in 1921 in New York City by Romanian-born brothers Benjamin, Oscar, and Ralph Lazrus, the brand built its reputation on crafting dependable timepieces, from commercial aviation chronographs to some of the U.S. military’s most trusted field tools. After weathering the highs and lows of the 20th century, Benrus is now writing its next chapter with modern reissues like the Type 1 M1 we saw a while ago and the newly released Type 1 MilSpec.
The watch features a 39.5mm-diameter case with a 14.4mm thickness, crafted from sandblasted 316L stainless steel. Sitting atop the case is a double-domed sapphire crystal with dual anti-reflective coating. Flipping the watch over, you’ll find a solid screw-down caseback engraved with the MIL-W-50717 military specification, along with production details and a "Swiss Made" marking. The case delivers 365 meters of water resistance.

The matte black dial is purpose-built for function, ditching branding and date complications entirely. Geometric indexes, dots, rectangles at 3, 6, and 9, and a triangle at 12, are filled with Super-LumiNova, offering excellent visibility in low light. Time is read via luminous sword-style hands.
Beating inside is the ETA 2892, an automatic movement that runs at 28,800 vph (4Hz) and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is paired with a 20mm black rubber strap secured with a stainless steel pin buckle. Unlike the fixed bars of the original issue, this version allows for easy strap changes thanks to a quick-release feature. The Type 1 MilSpec is priced at CHF 1,590, which is approximately AED 7,400.
