Introducing The New A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds

Founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, A. Lange & Söhne laid the foundation for Saxony’s tradition of precision watchmaking. Although the brand disappeared after the Second World War, it was revived in 1990 by Walter Lange, the founder’s great-grandson, and quickly reestablished itself at the pinnacle of haute horlogerie.

In 2006, the maison launched the Richard Lange collection as a tribute to Richard Lange, the eldest son of the founder, whose research and patents made significant contributions to chronometry. Within this line, the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds stands out as a scientific instrument of time, focusing on the most fleeting unit, the second. First introduced nine years ago, the model returns this year with a fresh limited release that combines a pink-gold dial with a white-gold case. 

The new watch is housed in a case measuring 39.9 mm in diameter and 10.6 mm in thickness. Crafted from 18k white gold, the case alternates between polished and brushed surfaces and is topped with a sapphire crystal. The sapphire crystal caseback provides a view into the finely finished movement.

The dial, made of 18k pink gold, offers a warm backdrop for three intersecting white sub-dials. At the top, the largest counter highlights the jumping seconds, while the smaller left and right counters indicate hours and minutes. Red accents mark the minute track and the triangular end-of-power indicator, which turns red ten hours before the mainspring is depleted. The dial is equipped with solid-gold hands for the hours and minutes, complemented by a rhodium-plated steel seconds hand.

Inside beats the manufacture calibre L094.1, a manually wound movement operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) with a power reserve of 42 hours. It features a constant-force escapement for uniform energy delivery throughout the reserve, a jumping seconds mechanism that advances precisely 60 times per minute, and a ZERO-RESET system that instantly returns the seconds hand to zero when the crown is pulled, enabling exact time setting. The movement is adorned with plates and bridges in untreated German silver, hand-engraved balance cock, and blued screws.

The watch is paired with a dark brown, hand-stitched alligator leather strap secured by a white-gold prong buckle. Limited to 100 numbered pieces, each engraved accordingly, the model is available upon request.
