Introducing The Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer Tourbillon

Where the haute horlogerie Meets German Precision

‘’Made in Germany" is a label that is often associated with high quality and precision. In the watchmaking field, Glashütte merges Deutsch engineering precision and craftsmanship, presenting us with the second edition of the "Senator Chronometer Tourbillon - Limited Edition”.

The Senator Collection is a testament to high mechanics and renowned for their classic designs. Three years ago, the first “Senator Chronometer Tourbillon” made its debut, marking the first instance in which Glashütte combined a flying tourbillon with a stop seconds mechanism, with a much more modern appearance, and an additional day/night indicator

This timepiece is housed in a sand-blasted polished platinum case, retaining the same materials as the previous edition. It boasts a 42mm diameter and a thickness of 12.6mm, with a new blue lacquer on the crown. However, the dial of the new model diverges significantly from its predecessor.

What distinguishes the new edition is that it comes with a semi-exposed dial, it is divided into two parts, the upper part is engraved with “Clou de Paris” pattern, which is a type of guilloché decoration in the form of a series of small squares that resemble a pyramid. The dial is topped by an hour and minute subdial at 12 o'clock with hour indices coated with blue lacquer, and blued hands coated with a strip of SuperLumiNova. In the center of the subdial lies an engraving of the globe, with the sun and moon above it, which rotates around a single axis, completing a full orbit every 24 hours, displaying the day-night indicator. The second half of the dial remains identical to the previous release, featuring a power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock and a flying tourbillon with a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock.

The tourbillon ceases its operation when the crown is initially pulled out. A vertical clutch is engaged, immobilizing the balance wheel and securing the tourbillon cage in position. Subsequently, when the crown is pulled for the second time, the tourbillon cage ascends until the small seconds hand resets to zero.

Nestled inside the case and revealed through the transparent case back, lies the manual winding In-house caliber 58-06, with a silicon balance spring that protects the timepiece against the influence of magnetic fields and changes in temperature, operating at 21,600 VPH, and offers 70 hours of  power reserve. In order to put the watch’s rate precision to the test, each watch is examined by the independent “Thuringian Weights and Measures” Office to ensure it meets the standard. In the process, the watches undergo a test lasting 15 days, during which they must establish their reliability in five different positions and at three different temperatures.

The “Senator Chronometer Tourbillon” is limited to 50 pieces only, and comes with a dark blue Louisiana alligator leather strap, with a platinum folding buckle, with a price of EURO 185,000 which is equivalent to AED 720,000.
