Introducing The Fortis Marinemaster M-44 DLC Gravity Black & Black Resin

Two new editions bring a darker look to one of the brand’s most capable tool watches

The Marinemaster collection reflects Fortis’s philosophy, which is built around clarity and resilience. While the name naturally suggests something rooted in aquatic performance, Fortis has never confined it to the narrow role of a traditional dive watch. In its current form, the Marinemaster feels more like a broad expression of the brand’s adventure-first mentality, combining serious water resistance and protective engineering with a look and feel suited to everyday wear just as much as harsher conditions.

Within that collection, the M-44 represents the more robust and assertive interpretation. It was originally introduced in 2022 as the larger, more heavily specified, and visually more forceful alternative to the smaller models in the range. This year marks the release of the new Marinemaster M-44 DLC Gravity Black and Black Resin, which bring a darker, more tactical presence to the collection.

The case measures 44mm in diameter and 14.5mm in thickness, and it is made from stainless steel with a black Dianoir DLC coating. Beyond giving the watch its stealthier appearance, the coating also serves a functional role. Fortis states that it increases the surface hardness to 4,500 HV on the Vickers scale, making it significantly more resistant to scratches than conventional stainless steel. The overall construction remains faithful to the M-44 format, with its strong profile, substantial bezel, and the locking mechanism at 10 o’clock that secures the bezel when engaged.

Turning the watch over reveals one of the few visual differences between the two versions. The Gravity Black comes with a stainless steel caseback, while the Black Resin features a matching black DLC-coated caseback. Both are closed backs, and both maintain the watch’s 500-meter water resistance.

The dial is black on both models and features the embossed Horizon pattern associated with the collection, derived from the “O” in the Fortis logo, along with a date window at 3 o’clock. From there, the two watches begin to separate in character. The Gravity Black leans into a colder, more technical aesthetic, using white accents, white Super-LumiNova on the applied indices, and a crisp white scale around the periphery that strengthens the contrast across the dial. The Black Resin takes a warmer approach. Its minute track is rendered with gold-colored numerals and markings, while the hands and indices are finished in 3N gold plating and filled with beige Super-LumiNova X1.

Inside both versions is the Fortis Werk 11, an automatic COSC-certified movement developed with Kenissi and tested in conjunction with Fortis. It beats at 28,800 vph (4Hz) and delivers a 70-hour power reserve. Fortis also places emphasis on the movement’s robust construction, particularly its traversing balance bridge with two-point fixation, which is intended to improve shock resistance and positional stability.

Both watches are fitted with a black textured rubber strap that carries the same Horizon motif seen on the dial and is secured by a black DLC-coated pin buckle. Both versions join the permanent collection at a price of €4,950, approximately AED 21,000 each.
