Introducing Breguet Refreshes the Tradition Collection with a Modern Touch

A carbon release that shows how a modern mechanical watch should feel
There are brands that dominate conversations simply because they are familiar, and then there are brands that earn attention the moment you actually spend time with the product. Formex firmly belongs in the second category. In the Gulf region in particular, Formex remains far from a household name, yet what it brings to the table feels remarkably aligned with where modern watchmaking needs to be. This is a brand that prioritises logic over legacy and performance over symbolism, and in doing so, it consistently punches above its weight.

Formex set out with a clear vision centred on engineering, ergonomics, and real-world usability. Across nearly all of its releases, the brand has shown a willingness to take bold technical steps, often introducing solutions that address problems most brands simply accept as part of the norm. Spending a full day with the Essence Leggera Mamba Green 41mm makes those priorities immediately clear.

The defining experience comes from Formex’s patented Case Suspension System, a feature the brand has refined since its early years. Rather than fixing the case rigidly to the wrist, the system allows the upper and lower sections of the case to move subtly via four integrated springs. It may sound complex on paper, but the effect is instantly noticeable on the wrist. The watch adapts naturally to wrist movement, absorbs shocks, and maintains constant contact without ever feeling tight or intrusive. After hours of wear, it begins to feel less like something you are wearing and more like something that simply belongs there.

The case is made from a proprietary carbon-fibre composite developed entirely in-house. It measures 41 mm in diameter with a thickness of 11 mm, and at just 40 grams, its lightness is almost surprising the first time you pick it up. The material has a smooth, almost soft feel against the skin, and throughout a full day of wear, comfort never becomes a concern. Zirconium oxide ceramic is used for both the bezel and the crown, adding scratch resistance to the areas that see the most frequent contact.

Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback that offers a clear view of the movement inside. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres, reinforcing the idea that the Essence Leggera is built to handle the demands of daily life.

The green dial is manufactured in-house and features precisely CNC-machined horizontal lines. Polished hands with mirror-finished bevels sit above hand-applied indices, all filled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova that emits a strong blue glow in low-light conditions. The layout remains simple, with central hands and a date window positioned at 3 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement in chronometer grade. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), it delivers a power reserve of 41 hours. Each movement undergoes COSC certification, passing a rigorous 15-day testing process before receiving its individual serial number. It also features a custom skeletonised rotor and thermally blued screws.

On the wrist, the strap system plays a larger role than expected. The watch is delivered on a black rubber strap, paired with Formex’s carbon-fibre composite deployant clasp, which integrates a patented 7 mm fine-adjustment system. The ability to fine-tune the fit while the watch remains on the wrist makes a noticeable difference over the course of a day, particularly as temperature and activity levels change. The Essence Leggera Mamba Green is priced at AED 7,761.90.
