Introducing The Emirati Brand Montero Unveils Its First Watch

A new Emirati watch brand has just launched Montero, founded by Ahmed Al Ali, the creative mind behind Abbāra. Drawing on his extensive experience in haute horlogerie, he aims to introduce a brand that reflects the region’s cultural heritage while offering refined watchmaking rooted in storytelling.

This vision led to the creation of the Montero GMT – Abbāra Edition — a watch inspired by eight of the world’s most breathtaking beaches, capturing the rhythm of the ocean and the spirit of travel. From Ibiza to Bora Bora, from Jumeirah to Miami, each beach represents both a moment in time and a story of exploration.

Montero brings together thoughtful mechanics, durable materials, and culturally meaningful narratives so that each piece represents more than timekeeping — it stands for creativity, precision, and continuity in the craft.

Time is more than numbers. For travelers, dreamers, and adventurers, it is a map. The Montero GMT – Abbāra Edition was created to tell the time of the world’s most iconic coastlines — not just its capitals. And this Abbāra Edition is only the beginning. The vision for Montero is to become a brand that tells new stories through future timepieces.

The case is crafted from stainless steel with a mix of polished and brushed finishes, and features a domed sapphire crystal. The stainless steel caseback is individually numbered and engraved with the Abbāra map motif, adding provenance and long-term appeal. The watch includes a crown at 3 o’clock for winding and time-setting, and another at 10 o’clock dedicated to adjusting the GMT function. The case measures 40 mm in diameter, 13.2 mm in height, and 47 mm lug-to-lug, with a water resistance of 50 meters.

The dial connects you to eight iconic beaches around the globe. It is available in two versions: a blue dial with Arabic script and Eastern Arabic numerals, and a green dial for the English edition featuring Latin script with Arabic numerals — each offering a culturally tuned aesthetic while maintaining the same tool-watch identity.

The GMT scale is positioned on the perimeter of the dial, forming an 8-beach world-time ring that simplifies multi-time-zone reading: Ibiza (+2), Jumeirah (+4), Patong (+7), Bali (+8), Madeira (−1), Copacabana (−3), Miami (−4), and Bora Bora (−10). The minutes and hours rings circle a compass-inspired central dial featuring an oil-pressed raised texture.

Powering the watch is the reliable automatic GMT Seiko Caliber NH34, offering a 41-hour power reserve. The movement measures 27 mm in diameter and 5.32 mm in thickness, operating at 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The brand notes that the final movement choice is still being evaluated, with both Seiko and Miyota GMT calibers considered, as they offer similar performance and specifications.

Each watch comes with an Italian calf leather strap designed for daily comfort. The English edition is paired with a blue strap, while the Arabic edition comes with a green strap to match its dial. The strap features a suede lining on the skin side, rein

forced holes, sealed edges, and is secured with a stainless steel pin buckle. The watch is priced at 799 USD, but the company is currently offering a discount, bringing the price down to 559 USD for a limited time.
