Introducing The Dutch Brand De Rijke & Co. Unveils the Capri Collection

A distinctive dial and a modern square design inspired by the Italian island of Capri

Following the Amalfi collection, the Capri continues De Rijke & Co.’s tradition of naming its watches after destinations where beauty and culture converge. The island of Capri, located south of Naples in Italy, has long been a retreat for refined escapes—a place where evenings carry a cinematic atmosphere and style feels instinctive. This ambience served as direct inspiration for the watch’s design, resulting in a timepiece that is elegant, sculptural, and undeniably suited as a formal watch.

The Capri draws inspiration from the heritage of iconic rectangular watches without falling into imitation. Instead, it reinterprets the design through a contemporary lens, expressed in modern lines and geometry. The result is a square watch that feels familiar at first glance, yet offers a distinctly fresh and modern character.

At the heart of the Capri is its striking curved sapphire crystal, inspired by vintage shopfront glass, architectural forms, and mid-century design icons. The stainless-steel case measures 28.5 × 38 × 6.5 mm and features a full-width dial framed at the top and bottom by smooth, brushed bands that conceal the watch’s integrated lugs. The Capri is offered in three versions, with two different crown designs: the Onyx edition features a short onion-style crown, while the other two editions are fitted with a taller, more squared crown.

The Capri Onyx edition stands out with its black onyx stone dial, smooth and reflective like glass. It is the most minimalist of the three, featuring skeletonized hour and minute hands, along with a refined logo and a “Dutch Crafted” inscription that highlights the brand’s Dutch craftsmanship. The Black Aventurine edition captivates with the characteristic depth and sparkle of aventurine stone, while the Capri Blue distinguishes itself with applied hour markers and a small seconds subdial set against its polished lacquered dial.

Beneath the sapphire crystal lies a dial that follows the same design philosophy. Rather than remaining flat, the edges of the dial gently curve to mirror the arc of the crystal above. Achieving this curvature presented a particular technical challenge for the stone dial versions, as stone is typically polished flat using traditional lapping machines. To realize the Capri’s curved geometry, De Rijke & Co. employed polishing techniques more commonly used in shaping sapphire crystals—a far more precise and labor-intensive approach.

The Capri’s minimalist philosophy extends beyond the domed crystal and dial to encompass every detail of the case. Each element is carefully refined to preserve the purity of the overall form. For instance, the screws are discreetly hidden behind the strap, allowing the case to appear as a single, uninterrupted piece, free from visual distractions and fully expressing its cohesive geometry.

Despite its understated elegance, the Capri offers practical robustness. It provides water resistance up to 30 meters, while the sapphire crystal measures 1 mm in thickness, ensuring the watch can withstand the demands of daily wear.

Inside, the Capri is powered by a hand-wound movement from La Joux-Perret, the calibre D100, offering a power reserve of up to 50 hours. Renowned for its refined engineering, reliability, and meticulous finishing, the movement adds mechanical depth to the watch’s minimalist appearance. Compact in size, it operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz). There are differences between the calibres used: the Capri Blue edition is equipped with the D100 calibre to accommodate the small seconds display, while the Onyx and Aventurine editions are powered by the D101 calibre.

The integrated strap further highlights the Capri’s commitment to visual harmony. Traditional lugs would have disrupted the clean geometry of the square case, so they are sculpted directly into the case structure itself, with a precise and considered design. The result is a seamless connection between strap and case that feels intrinsic to the watch, preserving the continuity of its silhouette and reinforcing the impression of a single, unified object crafted with great care.

All three versions of the Capri are limited editions of just 50 pieces each and share the same price of EUR 2,195, equivalent to approximately AED 9,500.
