A new release inspired by vintage automotive gauges
Founded in Liverpool in 1871 by Australian manufacturing jeweller David Stewart Dawson, the Stewart Dawson name has long been associated with craftsmanship, technical precision, and timepieces designed to endure beyond a single generation. Over time, the brand gained recognition for watches that emphasized reliability and repairability.

Today, under the ownership of the Netherlands-based company D Group, Stewart Dawson has taken a more focused direction, producing watches through bespoke projects created for specific collectors and communities that share a passion for mechanical culture.

The SD 911 emerges from exactly this environment. The watch was originally commissioned by a discreet circle of classic car collectors who wanted a timepiece that reflected the same philosophy guiding their machines, disciplined engineering, restrained design, and performance rooted in precision rather than spectacle. What began as a specialized request gradually developed into a watch with its own character, shaped by the aesthetics of vintage automotive instrumentation and the values of mechanical clarity.

The case measures 39 mm in diameter with a thickness of 11 mm and is crafted from 316L stainless steel. Its construction favors straightforward proportions and durability, aligning with the brand’s philosophy behind the project. Turning the watch over reveals an engraved caseback that references the culture and shared identity behind the release. The case offers water resistance of 100 meters.

The dial is executed in a semi-matte black tone that draws inspiration from period tachometers and vintage VDO automotive gauges, creating a visual language familiar to enthusiasts of classic engineering. Time is displayed through lumed Gladiator-style hands accompanied by sculpted indices that reinforce the bold character of the watch with a date window at 3 o'clock. The red central seconds hand echoes the motion of a rev counter needle and brings a sense of energy to the dial.

Powering the watch is the Swiss automatic Sellita SW200-1 movement, a calibre widely respected for its robustness and ease of service. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and delivers a power reserve of 38 hours. The watch comes with a black leather strap and is priced at €1,250, approximately AED 5,300.
