A Gradient Dial Inspired by the Neon Glow of Nighttime Racing
The TAG Heuer Monaco stands as one of the brand’s most distinctive collections, introduced in 1969 as a square-cased chronograph that challenged conventional Swiss watch design. From its earliest versions, the Monaco was aligned with competitive motorsport, not only through its technical role as a chronograph but also through its visibility in racing culture. Its adoption by actor and racing enthusiast Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans further cemented its status as a motorsport icon. Over decades, the collection has evolved through updated movements, case materials, and contemporary reinterpretations, while consistently maintaining its identity as a watch connected to performance timing, bold design, and the atmosphere of international racing events.
During its participation in Dubai Watch Week, TAG Heuer introduced its latest addition to the Monaco line, the "TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Skeleton Las Vegas.” This model draws inspiration from the visual character of night-time racing and the neon-lit environment of cities known for high-energy motorsport culture, most notably Las Vegas, host of the upcoming night-time F1 Grand Prix. The watch features a dial that transitions through shades of violet and blue, reflecting the shift from dusk to night. The overall composition positions the piece as a modern, race-focused interpretation within the Monaco family, designed to highlight both mechanical depth and the atmosphere of Las Vegas’ after-dark competition.
The watch is housed in a 39mm sandblasted black DLC-coated grade 2 titanium case that maintains Monaco's signature square geometry while offering a lightweight yet highly durable construction. Its profile measures 14mm in thickness with a balanced 47.4mm lug-to-lug span, topped by a beveled, domed sapphire crystal for enhanced clarity and impact resistance. Matching DLC-treated titanium push-buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock and a coordinated crown reinforce the unified, matte technical aesthetic. A screwed sapphire caseback—also finished in sandblasted black DLC titanium and engraved “LIMITED EDITION”—reveals the movement while preserving a solid 100-meter water-resistance rating.
The skeletonized dial presents an openworked architecture that transitions through a deep gradient from purple to dark blue, emphasizing visual depth and the watch’s nighttime racing inspiration. Surrounding the hands, indexes, and sub-counters is a circular white-printed minute track that unifies the layout and enhances legibility. A black flange with white markings frames the display, while the sub-counters at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock follow the same purple-to-blue tonal shift, integrating bright turquoise lacquered chronograph hands enhanced with blue Super-LumiNova for low-light visibility. The permanent seconds at 6 o’clock use a black gold-plated hand, complemented by a black openworked date disc with a Super-LumiNova date revealer. Faceted hour and minute hands in black gold plating, filled with white Super-LumiNova that glows green by night, work alongside luminous applied indexes to maintain clarity in all conditions. A rhodium-plated TAG Heuer logo and “MONACO” and “SWISS MADE” inscriptions complete the composition, resulting in a dial defined by technical layering, strong contrasts, and high-performance readability.
The watch is powered by TAG Heuer’s in-house Calibre TH20-00, an automatic integrated chronograph featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch for precise, smooth chronograph operation. The movement operates at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve.
It is paired with a black rubber and embossed black calfskin leather strap featuring purple stitching, secured by a sandblasted black DLC grade 2 titanium folding clasp with double safety push-buttons. This limited edition is restricted to 600 pieces and is priced at CHF 11,000, approximately AED 50,000.
