A Transparent Teal Dial Inspired by the Ocean Brings George Bamford’s Vision to Life
Breaking away from convention, Seiko 5 Sports introduces a bold new chapter in its legacy. In its latest release, the brand steps into new territory through its first-ever collaboration with Bamford Watch Department the London-based luxury watch customisation house known for its distinctive and unconventional aesthetic presenting the “Seiko 5 Sports × Bamford limited-edition” watch that merges Seiko’s heritage with Bamford’s signature design language.
The stainless steel case measures 42.5mm in diameter, 13.4mm in thickness, and 46.0mm in length, offering a robust yet comfortable presence on the wrist. It features a curved Hardlex crystal and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a lustrous insert that recreates a classic Seiko archive design. The screw-down, see-through case back is engraved with the words “LIMITED EDITION,” a unique serial number, and the “BWD” logo representing Bamford Watch Department, emphasizing the watch’s exclusivity. The case also offers a water resistance rating of 100 meters.
The dial captures a playful blend of nostalgia and futurism, drawing inspiration from the atmosphere of a retro-futuristic lido. Rendered in a teal-toned translucent blue, the skeleton-style dial reveals the inner mechanics of the day-date function, including twin discs that display the days of the week in both English and Japanese on the inner track, and the date on the outer track.
Signature Bamford touches include bold fluorescent accents, like orange lollipop seconds hand, an orange arrow-style minute hand, and a blue plongeur hour hand each paired with rectangular Lumibrite-coated hour indices for enhanced legibility. Further amplifying the glow, the day disc itself is also lumed. The layout and hand shapes echo the iconic 1980s SKX series, while the Bamford logo at 6 o’clock subtly affirms the collaboration’s distinct identity.
Powering the watch is the Caliber 4R36, an automatic movement with manual winding capability. Beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz), it offers a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The movement also features a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting.
The watch is fitted with a nylon strap and a stainless steel pin buckle. It's a limited edition to 2,025 pieces, and is priced at USD 460, approximately AED 1,700.
