Four editions inspired by Kintaro Hattori’s early designs
Seiko’s history is often told through big inventions and category-defining firsts, but the brand’s identity has always rested on something quieter as well, an insistence that utility and beauty can share the same dial. That idea goes all the way back to the Ginza shop Kintaro Hattori opened in 1881, where imported clocks and watches were not only sold and repaired, but also treated as objects worthy of care, finish, and pride. By the time he founded Seikosha in 1892 and produced the company’s early timepieces, Seiko had already begun building a language that mixes practicality with decorative restraint.
For Seiko’s 145th anniversary, the brand chooses to celebrate through four limited editions spanning King Seiko, Prospex, Presage, and Astron (powered by GPS solar quartz movement). The connecting thread is deliberately subtle, gold-colored accents paired with dial treatments inspired by an engraved motif associated with Hattori’s early pieces. Each watch interprets the idea differently, depending on what the line stands for today.

Starting with the King Seiko KS1969 145th Anniversary Limited Edition SJE121, which is presented in a stainless steel case measuring 39.4 mm in diameter with a slim 9.9 mm profile, fitted with a box-shaped sapphire crystal treated with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface. A screw case back ensures water resistance to 50 meters.
Its grey dial is animated by a patterned surface that gradually darkens toward the periphery, creating a rich backdrop for the gold-colored hands, hour markers, logo, and date frame at 3 o’clock. The watch comes with a multi-row stainless steel bracelet, and is powered by the automatic Caliber 6L35, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) with a 45-hour power reserve. The model is limited to 800 pieces and is priced at EUR 3,200, approximately AED 13,700.

The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Mechanical Chronograph 145th Anniversary Limited Edition SRQ059 is built around a 42 mm stainless steel case treated with a super-hard coating, giving the watch a robust presence matched by 14.6 mm thickness. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective inner coating tops the case, while a screw case back secures water resistance of 100 meters.

Its crisp white dial features an engraved pattern that adds depth and texture, setting the stage for gold-colored hands, hour markers, and logo that bring a refined warmth to the sporty layout. The chronograph display is arranged with a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a discreet date window at 4:30.

The solid stainless steel bracelet, also finished with a super-hard coating and fitted with a three-fold clasp, reinforces the watch’s tool-oriented character. Powering the watch is the automatic Caliber 8R48 with a column wheel and vertical clutch, beating at 28,800 vph (4Hz) with a 45-hour power reserve. Limited to 700 pieces, the SRQ059 is offered at EUR 2,700, approximately AED 11,600.

The Seiko Presage Classic Series “Craftsmanship” Enamel Dial 145th Anniversary Limited Edition SPB538 expresses the softer, more nostalgic side of the anniversary collection, translating Seiko’s early pocket watch spirit into a compact 35 mm stainless steel case with a 12.3 mm thickness finished with a gold PVD coating. Protecting the dial is a box-shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective inner treatment.

That sense of elegant refinement continues on the dial, where smooth white enamel forms a calm canvas for black Roman numerals arranged in a traditional three-hand layout. The watch is worn on a brown leather strap, and is powered by the automatic Caliber 6R51 beating at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and provides a substantial 72-hour power reserve. It is limited to 1,450 pieces, and is priced at EUR 2,000, approximately AED 8,600.
