A Bold Design Featuring a Multi-Layered Dial and Exceptional Handcraftsmanship
Sarpaneva celebrates the Year of the Horse, as marked by the Chinese zodiac, with the Firehorse edition. In this creation the independent Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva introduces color and steel in perfect harmony, waiting for darkness. In daylight, the hand-applied Swiss Super-LumiNova reveals its vivid character, while the textured steel surfaces quietly hold the fire until night falls.
Set within the signature Korona case, the watch is crafted from high-grade Outokumpu stainless steel sourced in Finland (SUPRA 316L/4435). The 42mm case showcases a refined interplay of brushed and polished surfaces, highlighting Sarpaneva’s distinctive design language. Measuring 11.4mm in thickness with a compact 46mm lug-to-lug span, it offers a balanced and comfortable presence on the wrist. Both the dial and caseback are protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystals, ensuring optimal clarity from every angle, while a screw-down crown positioned at 4 o’clock enhances ergonomics and contributes to the watch’s 100-meter water resistance.
The dial is crafted from stainless steel and composed of five high-end, meticulously finished components, each hand-worked to create shifting textures that catch the light like sparks across cold metal. This ever-changing surface gives every piece a distinct visual identity, further enhanced by the use of eight different shades of hand-applied Swiss Super-LumiNova, ensuring that no two dials are exactly alike.
Complementing this dynamic display, the two-tone steel hands, also filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova, provide both excellent legibility and a subtle contrast against the dial’s expressive, almost elemental character.
Powering the watch is a modified Chronode P.1003 calibre, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 60-hour power reserve. The automatic movement displays hours, minutes, and seconds, and is finished in rhodium with matte surfaces. It is visible through the sapphire caseback, where Sarpaneva’s signature Moonface rotor is mounted on a ceramic ball bearing.
The watch is fitted with a handmade Sarpaneva Epsom leather strap measuring 22mm, secured by a Sarpaneva stainless steel pin buckle in 18mm. It features a lug width of 22mm and is also available with an optional Sarpaneva Moonbridge steel bracelet for an additional €2,500.
The Sarpaneva Firehorse is a unique piece, available on demand, and priced at EUR 18,500 (approximately AED 78,355).
