2023 Models Are Now Eligible for Sale Through Authorized Dealers
Rolex, the leading name in Swiss watchmaking, has updated its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program. Authorized dealers can now sell watches that are at least two years old, down from the previous minimum of three years. As a result of this change, 2023 models are now eligible for the program.
The Geneva-based brand confirmed: “In light of the growing demand for second-hand Rolex watches, the brand has decided to include watches under three years old in its Certified Pre-Owned programme. As of May 2025, all pre-owned Rolex watches are eligible for the program, provided they are at least two years old. The rest of the program's conditions remain unchanged.”
While the adjustment may seem minor in terms of time, it marks a strategic shift in the eligibility criteria and gives authorized dealers access to a wider range of models that may have previously been sold through unaffiliated secondary-market sellers.
Rolex first launched its Certified Pre-Owned program in December 2022 through a limited number of Bucherer stores in Europe, and later expanded to the U.S. market in 2023. In November 2024, Ahmed Seddiqi joined the program and opened its first dedicated CPO boutique in Dubai. Every CPO watch sold by an authorized dealer comes with a two-year warranty.
Since its launch, the program has drawn criticism from some watch enthusiasts, who accused Rolex of attempting to dominate the secondary market. These concerns were further fueled by the brand’s acquisition of the Bucherer retail network. We previously explored this topic in detail, highlighting the program’s features and presenting different perspectives around it. It's also worth noting that Vacheron Constantin introduced its own certified pre-owned program last year.
