Introducing Roger Dubuis Releases The New Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt Chrome

Roger Dubuis is a Swiss watchmaker renowned for its limited editions and audacious designs, seamlessly blending high-end avant-garde materials with masterful craftsmanship. Known for using cutting-edge materials such as Damascus Titanium and carbon, Roger Dubuis has consistently pushed its boundaries in watchmaking. Since 2017, the brand has incorporated Cobalt Chrome into its creations, making it one of the Maison's signature materials. This year, the brand continues to innovate with the release of the Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt Chrome, a new addition to the Excalibur collection, featuring the unique Cobalt Chrome alloy and eye-catching blue accents.

Before starting with the watch’s details, it's worth highlighting the significance of Cobalt Chrome, a metal alloy known for its high strength and corrosion resistance, commonly used in the automotive and aerospace industries. This alloy, known as “CarTech Micro-Melt BioDur CCM”, is rarely seen in watchmaking, but as always with Roger Dubuis, the choice of material enhances both performance and aesthetics. The silvery-gray hue of this innovative alloy is beautifully paired with a blue hue inspired by cobalt's natural color.

As for the watch’s specifications, it boasts a 45mm diameter and a thickness of 14.6mm, with a case that features a refined blend of brushed and polished finishes. It retains the signature design elements that define other models in the brand's Excalibur collection, such as the distinctive three lugs and the notched bezel. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch also includes a sapphire crystal caseback. 

The openworked dial features a stunning blue CVD (chemical vapor deposition) coated double surface flange, adding depth and dimension to the design. Skeletonized hands crafted from 18k white gold are coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring visibility even in low light, a feature also applied to the indices. At the heart of the dial, the brand's iconic star-shaped bridge can be seen, with two flying tourbillons positioned at 5 and 7 o'clock.

The watch is driven by the in-house Calibre RD108, a manual-winding movement composed of 319 components, operating at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offering a 72-hour power reserve. The flying tourbillons feature an upper cage made from non-magnetic Cobalt Chrome and a lower cage crafted from titanium, a non-magnetic material that is also twice as light as steel. These two tourbillons are linked with a differential that connects directly to the second wheel of the gear train, allowing for superior energy transmission. Poinçon de Genève certified, this movement meets one of the most stringent standards in Haute Horlogerie. The watch is limited to 28 pieces and it comes with an interchangeable blue calfskin leather strap, with a titanium triple folding buckle.
