A Motorsport-Inspired Design Fusing Advanced Engineering with the Vibrant Colors of the Mexican Flag
Roger Dubuis and Pirelli collaborate once again to unveil a special edition of the sporty Excalibur Spider: the Pirelli Flyback Chronograph Mexico Limited Edition. It is a convergence of two distinct worlds that share a singular obsession with precision, cutting-edge materials, and the relentless pursuit of the avant-garde, a timepiece that serves as a kinetic tribute to Mexico’s vibrant motorsport culture.
Skeletonized to the extreme, whether in the calibre, the case, or even the hands every element is reduced to its purest essence to fully embody the spirit of racing.
The color palette pays a deliberate and patriotic homage to Mexico, with vivid flashes of green, white, and red energizing the monochrome mechanical landscape. These colors are not applied decoratively; they are integrated into the flange and indices, forming a cohesive visual ring that frames the frenetic activity of the movement beneath.
The 45mm case is crafted from C-SMC Carbon, chosen not only for its stealthy matte-black aesthetic but also for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, echoing the carbon-fiber monocoques found on the racetrack. This lightweight shell is paired with a black ceramic bezel, which provides scratch resistance and a contrasting texture to the fibrous carbon grain. The architecture is purposeful, devoid of unnecessary ornamentation yet rich in structural complexity.
The bezel features crisp, lacquered markings essential for a chronograph born from the track. Between 10 and 2 o’clock, bold green numerals dominate the periphery, their angular typography evoking speed and digital precision.
The drama continues along the case flank, where the pushers and crown are shielded by an intricate, skeletonized guard. The crown, crafted from black DLC titanium, incorporates a red lacquered ring that enhances grip and orientation. The pusher guards are engraved with “START/STOP” and “RESET” in red, reminiscent of cockpit controls in a high-performance machine. The entire profile is sharp, technical, and aerodynamically inspired.

As we have come to expect from Excalibur Spider models, the dial is open-worked. It features a stealthed "Y" bridge, surrounded by a double black flange made of carbon, with red and white indices and screw-like hour markers that are rhodium-plated and filled with Superluminova. Additionally, it has a white tachymeter scale on the inner flange.
One of the most technically compelling features is the 120° Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) at 3 o’clock. This patent-pending mechanism reimagines the display of elapsed minutes: instead of a traditional circular sub-dial, a tripartite hand carries the digits 0, 1, and 2, rotating past a fixed 0–9 scale. The active digit sweeps across to indicate the tens of minutes, while the pointer displays the single minutes—a playful yet highly intuitive system.
To maintain precision amid racing vibrations, Roger Dubuis employs the Second Braking System (SBS), another patent-pending innovation. Connected to the vertical clutch, it stabilizes the chronograph seconds hand at the moment it stops. In many chronographs, the hand can stutter due to gear backlash; the SBS eliminates this, ensuring the hand stops with absolute rigidity for perfectly clear readings.
Powered by the calibre RD780, which boasts two patents pending for the second braking system and the rotating minute counter, this automatic movement operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a 72-hour power reserve. As a Poinçon de Genève certified watch, it features top-tier finishings. The five-arm rotor, inspired by Lamborghini’s five-spoke wheels, deviates from the appearance of a traditional winding weight.
A sapphire display back reveals the RD780 movement, overlaid with a metallized depiction of the Mexican flag. Green and red semi-circles flank the mechanics, with a “MEXICO” inscription at the top. At the center, crossed checkered flags and the Pirelli logo underscore the collaborative nature and exclusivity of this edition.
The rubber strap continues the motorsport theme with an inlay made from genuine Pirelli tires used in real races, offering the wearer a literal piece of racing history. The rubber is rugged and textured for comfort and durability, while the contrasting stitching evokes the sidewalls of Formula 1 tires.
Versatility is ensured through the Quick Release System (QRS) on both the strap and the buckle, enabling tool-free strap changes in seconds. The triple-folding clasp, made of black DLC titanium, matches the case and provides a secure fit even under intense G-forces.
Limited to just 28 pieces, the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Flyback Chronograph Mexico Edition is available upon request.
