Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
Paying tribute to Northern folklore through a moonphase complication
Founded in 2020, Antti Rönkkö stands among the youngest and most uncompromising voices in contemporary independent watchmaking. From its earliest days, the Finnish atelier positioned itself outside conventional horological categories, approaching watch creation with mythology, architecture, and mechanical expression treated as equal pillars. Rather than refining familiar design languages, Rönkkö has developed an entirely personal visual and mechanical identity rooted in Northern folklore, dark symbolism, and deliberate hand finishing.

The brand has quickly become known in the region for watches that feel closer to wearable artefacts than conventional timepieces. Heavy textures, sharply faceted structures, and theatrical mechanical displays define its aesthetic, placing it in a rare territory between sculpture and watchmaking. Its latest release, the Son of Tuoni, introduces a proprietary lunar system that transforms the movement of time into a slow cycle across the dial.
The watch is housed in a sharply sculpted 316L stainless steel case, finished by hand and treated with a hardened IP black coating. This highly durable, scratch-resistant finish is applied through an advanced industrial process known as Ion Plating, a form of PVD treatment. Its architecture is defined by aggressive faceting and alternating brushed and polished surfaces that create dynamic light transitions. The diameter measures 41.9 mm, while the thickness stands at 10.15 mm. The exhibition caseback is fitted with a sapphire crystal featuring anti-reflective coating and secures water resistance rated at 30 meters.

The dial is constructed as a rotating disc engraved with the Jatuls’ Garden pattern and finished in black. Diamond-cut stiletto-style hands and diamond-cut applied indexes rise sharply above the surface. Time and moon phases are displayed through a central rotating system that moves counter-clockwise. Depending on the selected configuration, the watch can present a single moon or dual moons sculpted in stainless steel for bright moons, or blackened stainless steel for new moons. This is not a conventional moonphase complication added onto the dial. It is the dial itself. Instead of using a small aperture, Rönkkö engineered the entire dial to rotate as a lunar theatre. The surface carrying the hands slowly turns around its axis, physically expressing the passing of lunar cycles rather than merely indicating them.
At the centre sits the sculpted moon of the guardian figure in Finnish mythology, Tuonen Poika, executed in polished stainless steel for the bright full moon or blackened steel for the new moon. Dual-moon versions place two sculptural moons opposite one another, creating a continuous dialogue between light and darkness as the dial turns.

The rotation follows a true lunar rhythm of 29.5 days. Single-moon versions complete one full rotation in 29.5 days, while dual-moon versions complete a full rotation in 59 days, ensuring that each moon still reaches its peak at 12 o’clock every 29.5 days. When a moon reaches the top of the dial, it marks the moment of full visibility or absolute darkness.
Powering the watch is a modified Soprod A10 calibre fitted with an in-house-developed moon complication module. It is an automatic movement operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is fitted with a hand-finished Ukonvasara-shaped rotor visible through the sapphire back. The watch is worn on a handmade matte black alligator strap secured by a hardened IP black-coated stainless steel buckle engraved with the brand’s logo.
Each configuration is produced as a limited edition of 20 pieces. The Single Moon version is priced at EUR 12,700, approximately AED 54,500, while the Dual Moon version is priced at EUR 14,900, approximately AED 63,900.
