Introducing Richard Mille Unveils the RM 41-01 Tourbillon Flyback Chronograph Soccer

A unique mechanical innovation designed to track the course of a football match

Richard Mille unveiled its new RM 41-01 Tourbillon Flyback Chronograph Soccer, an aptly named creation designed to track every moment of a football match, from kick-off to the final whistle. This skeletonized, highly technical sports watch further underscores the brand’s long-standing relationship with the world of football.

That connection began with the RM 011 Felipe Massa launched in 2007, and later evolved with the RM 11-04 Roberto Mancini introduced in 2019 in collaboration with Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini, which debuted an innovative match-time display. Pushing this daring concept even further, the RM 41-01 tackles the unique challenge of fully tracking a football match through the prism of haute horlogerie, including the recording of goals.

Far more than a tribute to the sport, the RM 41-01 demonstrates Richard Mille’s ability to merge advanced watchmaking with sport-specific functionality. The watch comprises 650 movement components and 800 in total including the case, required five years of development, introduces a new patented tourbillon flyback chronograph, integrates two new complications, and debuts a Basalt TPT® case material,  making it one of the most complex and refined calibres ever created by the brand.

As expected, the watch features Richard Mille’s signature tonneau-shaped case, offered here in two versions measuring 43.24 mm × 49.65 mm with a thickness of 16.08 mm. The first debuts on this model: a maroon-hued Basalt TPT®, derived from volcanic rock and prized for its resistance to chemicals, corrosion, and UV radiation. The second version is executed in deep-blue Quartz TPT®.

Material has been meticulously removed wherever possible to reduce weight and reveal the architecture beneath. Microblasted bridges and structural elements are enhanced with PVD coatings to improve legibility within the openworked construction.

For this timepiece, Richard Mille developed an entirely new calibre, created in partnership with Audemars Piguet. Crafted from microblasted Grade 5 titanium, the movement features a tourbillon escapement, a flyback chronograph with overlapping central minutes and seconds, and a function indicator.

A new match-time indicator positioned at 9 o’clock tracks the current phase of play. Each reset of the flyback chronograph advances the display from the first half to the second half, including both periods of extra time.

The score of both teams can also be recorded using mechanical goal counters positioned along the outer rails of the movement. Pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock allow the wearer to register goals for the home and away teams, up to nine goals before the indicator returns to zero.

The flyback chronograph employs a double column-wheel architecture to ensure smoother control and consistent pusher feel: one column wheel governs start/stop functions, while the other manages flyback and reset. The match-phase display advances sequentially through the game periods with each reset. The movement delivers a 70-hour power reserve, indicated at 1 o’clock.

Each color version is limited to 30 pieces and priced at USD 1.94 million (approximately AED 7.12 million).
