Introducing Rado Unveils the Captain Cook in 39mm

One of Rado’s most beloved collections is the Captain Cook, a dive watch first introduced in 1962 and revived in 2017. Since then, it has become a cornerstone of the brand’s offerings, especially for those seeking vintage spirit paired with modern performance.

This year, Rado expands the collection with two new models, marking the first time the 39mm case size appears in the regular lineup, previously seen only in a limited-edition tennis model. These new references feature gradient dials in summer-inspired hues, ranging from light blue to silver.

The watch comes in a polished stainless steel case measuring 39mm in diameter and 12mm in thickness. It is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel featuring a polished high-tech ceramic insert, light blue with silver metallised markings (Ref. R32223203), or black ceramic with white Super-LumiNova accents (Ref. R32223213).

The case also includes a screw-down crown with an embossed anchor logo and a box-shaped sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides. A screw-down stainless steel caseback, decorated with an embossed design of three seahorses and stars, ensures a water resistance rating of 300 meters.

The dials of the two new references are designed to capture different moods of the sea. Ref. R32223203 features a light blue-to-silver gradient dial, evoking tropical shallows beneath a cloudless sky. Ref. R32223213 presents a black-to-turquoise fade, reminiscent of deeper, more enigmatic waters. Both dials include rhodium-plated applied indices treated with white Super-LumiNova that glows blue in the dark, a rotating anchor logo at 12 o’clock set against a ruby backdrop, and an arrow-tipped hour hand inspired by the 1962 original. The date window at 3 o’clock has a white background with red numerals.

Powering the watch is the Rado calibre R763, based on the reliable Swatch Group Powermatic 80 platform. This automatic movement runs at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers a robust 80-hour power reserve. Both models come fitted with a stainless steel bracelet in a classic beads-of-rice design, equipped with Rado’s EasyClip system for quick strap changes and secured with a three-fold stainless steel clasp. The price is CHF 2,200, approximately AED 10,150.
