The Italian brand delivers an exceptional design with impressive technical specifications
Diving watches have long been a category we’ve explored in depth, covering the technical challenges, design innovations, and offerings from both high-end maisons and microbrands. But the Italian brand U-BOAT has shattered expectations with a dive watch unlike any other: the Profondo, a bold, oversized titanium timepiece with record-breaking water resistance.
Capable of withstanding depths of up to 10,000 meters, the Profondo is as much a technical feat as it is a stylistic statement. Its rugged aesthetics are accentuated by an aged dial that evokes the mysteries of the deep and mechanical echoes of a bygone era.
The watch features a 46mm matte titanium case with an imposing 27mm thickness, topped with a 9.7mm domed sapphire crystal, ensuring extreme pressure resistance. A unidirectional rotating bezel, also crafted from titanium, is fitted with metal markers treated in beige Super-LumiNova, enhancing legibility in low light.
At 3 o’clock, a discreet automatic helium escape valve safeguards the movement during decompression, while a screw-down crown at 9 o’clock, protected by robust crown guards, ensures secure time-setting functionality.
On the reverse, laser engravings and the brand’s patented Locking Ring System on the caseback guarantee total impermeability. The bezel's knurled pattern is echoed on the back, reinforcing the watch’s cohesive and purposeful design.
The three-level metal dial is manually oxidized to produce an intentionally aged finish, no two dials are exactly alike, making each Profondo unique. The metal hands, along with the indices and numerals, are also treated with beige Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility in the darkest depths.
Inside, the watch is powered by a Swiss-made Sellita SW 200 automatic calibre, technically modified to U-BOAT’s specifications. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), the movement offers a 41-hour power reserve, and features a skeletonized, customized metal rotor, underscoring the brand’s mechanical artistry.
Completing the package is a handcrafted leather strap made by Tuscan artisans, secured with a double-pin titanium buckle. Each Profondo also comes with an additional titanium bracelet, and is offered in a limited edition of 100 individually numbered pieces, priced at €3,800 which is equivalent to (approx. AED 16,000).
