Introducing Piaget Unveils the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition

A tribute to the Chinese Year of the Horse, shaped by enamel artistry

Piaget hardly requires an introduction. Few maisons have left such a decisive mark, whether through pioneering work in ultra-thin movements or a long-standing integration of decorative arts into fine watchmaking. From record-setting calibres to enduring excellence in enameling, engraving, and gem-setting, the house has consistently operated at the highest level.

This philosophy finds one of its most discreet yet expressive forms in the Altiplano Zodiac series. Conceived as a celebration of the Chinese zodiac, these ultra-limited creations unite Métiers d’Art craftsmanship with the Altiplano’s pure, slender architecture. Produced in small numbers and released selectively, each edition treats its zodiac subject as a sculptural and symbolic presence on the dial. With its latest release, the brand introduces the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition, continuing this tradition while drawing inspiration from the energy and fluidity of the horse, translated into a watch defined by restraint.

The case is crafted from 18-carat white gold and measures 41 mm in diameter with a thickness of just 8.3 mm. The bezel is set with baguette-cut diamonds, brilliant-cut stones extend along the lugs, and a single rose-cut diamond crowns the winding crown. The caseback remains understated and closed, protecting the movement within, while water resistance is rated at 30 meters.

The dial begins with a hand-engraved white gold base, followed by the application of enamel. The color palette is composed of blue, gray, and white tones. Slim hour and minute hands provide the time indication, while traditional indices are omitted entirely to preserve the integrity of the composition. At the center, a horse appears, rendered in cloisonné enamel with striking dimensionality. Surrounding the figure, Palace Décor engraving animates the gold surface, a technique Piaget has carried forward since the 1960s. Paillon and cloisonné enameling techniques interact with the engraved base, allowing light to shift across the dial. Each dial is individually crafted by Swiss enameller Anita Porchet.

Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre 830P, a manual-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured by Piaget. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and measuring just 2.5 mm in thickness, it remains among the thinnest hand-wound movements of its kind, while offering a power reserve of 60 hours. The watch is paired with a blue alligator leather strap and produced in a strictly limited series of 18 pieces. The price is available upon request.
