Arctic Rose, Adds a Refined Touch to Its Unique Timekeeping Mechanism
In 2023, Parmigiani Fleurier unveiled the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, a world first that immediately captivated connoisseurs. Not a complication designed to measure performance, but a timepiece created to offer a unique experience: the ability to add time on demand. An innovative idea executed with disarming clarity, bringing watchmaking back to its original purpose.
Now, on the occasion of Dubai Watch Week 2025, the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante returns with a new interpretation featuring an Arctic Rose dial.
This chromatic choice carries a deeper narrative. In the eighteenth century, rose was a colour worn predominantly by men, symbolizing refinement and distinction. It was only in the second half of the twentieth century that it became associated with femininity. Reintroducing this shade into contemporary masculine watchmaking reconnects with a forgotten tradition and affirms an aesthetic liberated from convention.
The Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante works by using two minute hands that normally sit exactly on top of each other. When you press the pusher at 10 o’clock, the hidden hand jumps forward by one minute, and when you press the pusher at 8 o’clock, it jumps forward by five minutes. The regular minute hand continues moving normally until it catches up with the advanced hand, and when they meet again, the added time has passed. A gold pusher inside the crown instantly brings both hands back together. It’s a simple, intuitive way to “add time” without using a timer or bezel.

The Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante features a round stainless-steel case aligned with the design codes of the iconic Tonda PF collection, maintaining a 40 mm diameter. The platinum bezel displays a knurled motif, complemented by a mirror-polished finish across the rest of the case. While this edition measures 10.7 mm in thickness, its water resistance is slightly reduced to 60 meters.
The case integrates three additional pushers: one at 10 o’clock to add a minute, another at 8 o’clock to add five minutes, and a third, crafted in gold, discreetly integrated into the crown.
The dial comes in a captivating Arctic Rose hue. Blending pale rose tones with crystalline reflections, it shifts beautifully with the light, revealing a subtle and ever-evolving palette. The ‘Grain d’Orge’ barley-grain guilloché, a signature motif of the Maison since 1996, is executed here in an exceptionally fine pattern.
Each detail is meticulously finished, including the delicate rhodium-plated hour indices, applied by hand. These indices gracefully frame the main dial before descending into the slightly recessed minute track.
Crafted from 18K gold, the delta-shaped hour and minute hands feature partial skeletonization and rhodium plating. The Minute Rattrapante hand, fashioned in rose gold, adds a warm and refined contrast.
Powering the watch is the in-house Parmigiani Calibre PF052. This automatic movement incorporates the world’s first Minute Rattrapante function within an impressively slender 4.9 mm architecture, driven by a 22K gold micro-rotor. Operating at 3 Hz, it offers a power reserve of 48 hours.
Comprising 271 components, the calibre is finished to the highest standards of traditional watchmaking, featuring Côtes de Genève, perlage, and hand-bevelled edges. The 22-carat rose gold micro-rotor, adorned with Grain d’Orge guilloché, echoes the dial and creates a refined harmony between the watch’s exterior and interior.
The timepiece is completed with an integrated stainless-steel bracelet, alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, and fitted with a stainless-steel folding clasp.
