Two New Editions Pay Tribute to Its Historic Partnership with the Italian Navy
Panerai continues its storied partnership with the Marina Militare by unveiling two new Submersible references: the Submersible Marina Militare PAM01697 in stainless steel and the PAM01698 in Carbotech. These timepieces mark another chapter in Panerai’s longstanding tribute to the Italian Navy.
The bond between Panerai and the Marina Militare is foundational. The original Radiomir was developed specifically for the Italian Navy, and that heritage has inspired numerous limited-edition models over the years. With this latest release, Panerai shifts its focus more precisely to the Aviazione Navale the elite aerial division of the Italian Navy, resulting in two robust dive watches imbued with authentic military character.
The PAM01697 features a 44mm stainless steel case with a water resistance of 300 meters. It’s a bold presence on the wrist, defined by Panerai’s signature cushion-shaped case and prominent crown guard—hallmarks of the Luminor and Submersible collections.
The PAM01698, while identical in layout and dimensions, introduces a sportier and more lightweight feel thanks to its use of Carbotech for the case and bezel. Its caseback is crafted from black DLC-coated titanium, adding durability and stealthy appeal.
Both models showcase a military-inspired, gradient green dial that fades to black at the periphery, paired with a matching ceramic bezel. The layout features circular hour markers in grey Super-LumiNova® Grade X2, with baton markers at 6 o’clock and a double baton at 12. A date window is positioned at 3 o’clock, while the small seconds sub-dial is placed at 9.
Inside both editions ticks the automatic P.900 calibre movement, offering a 3-day (72-hour) power reserve from a single barrel. With a thickness of just 4.2mm, the movement comprises 171 components and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz). It also delivers reliable shock resistance, an essential quality for any professional dive watch.
Completing the look is a rugged green canvas strap, perfectly in line with the watch’s military aesthetic. The steel version is paired with a stainless steel buckle, while the Carbotech model features a DLC-coated titanium buckle. Both watches also come with an additional black rubber strap.
The steel version is priced at €12,100, approximately equivalent to AED 46,800, while the Carbotech edition is priced at €18,900, approximately AED 80,400.
